No way!! It's the Moor. It starts off so unsuspecting and odd, and then kicks i with pure madness! A great album opener, one of their best songs, and the album wouldn't sound the same without that tune at the beginning. That's why it get's my vote!

wtf?

three votes for the moor so far?

It's funny because, I was tempted to add in the first post, how out of the five songs, "moor" is the weakest one.

the beginning is a waste of my time,

the vocals pale in comparison to those of the other songs. (Still life seems the most lackluster vocally)

and the song itself lacks that foward momentum, strength, and vitality that the other songs have.

Not that it's in my estimation "bad" but it sucks compared to the other songs (on the pole, and on the still life album)

:OMG: I am shocked and appalled.

WOW. Zero for advent. I use that song to start my compilation CD of my favourite songs ever, I like it so much as a starter. That's my windows start-up sound (well, an excerpt thereof, I should say. The line "am I to bid you farewell" is my shut down sound and the Morningrise cover is my BG. Yes, I'm a nerd.)

I figured it'd be popular enough that I went with what I assumed to be "Prologue/April Ethereal", because it really is the best way to start a record, even if the rain sounds have been done many times before. "It was me, peering through the looking glass..."

Yeah, where's prologue, and paired with the transition to april ethereal, yeah.. but Advent still gets my vote.. The Moor is good, but It's my least favorite song on the album, I love the intro, but the rest of the song is, well great, but the rest of the album is better. The Moor sounds too normal, but maybe that's WHY it is at the begginning of the record, followed by Godheads Lament which is total Insanity.

I'll vote for April Ethereal, since if Prologue/that wasn't great, I would have put MAYH back on the shelf and kept my $11. Lucky for me, it kicks ass and I was pulled in immediately. Though I can see how different it is from all the other Opeth, even in the guitar tone, it's very driving, without a lot of high-end (though it's a week or so since I've listened to it, so bear with me).

I like the production, and I feel that it only adds to the album. It's a great opener, with a lot of atmosphere.

Advent is great, but I fell in love with Night and the Silent Water right away on that album, so I'd actually skip over it at first. Same went for Nectar. I don't do that anymore, but I think that's influenced my decision.

The Leper Affinity is also kickass, especially the first line. But I think it needs more of a build-up, like the Moor. I like the intro to the Moor, but I found it drawn out when I was bussing to work last summer, and I just wanted to hear something a little more concrete. It's a pretty epic song, though, and that I really like.

In Mist She Was Standing is just somewhat abrupt. I still like the song, but I know the stuff off Orchid the least well.

Yeah, so my vote will stay with April Ethereal (not that I can un-vote it anyway).

I have voted for Leper affinity... if i hadnt listened to blackwater park during the last week ( :) ) i think i would have chosen either the moor or advent

waste of time? i sometimes wish the beginning would go on for longer. i chose the moor, which after reading Till Fjalls' review thingy of it enjoyed it even more (thanks:) ) yet all are sooooooooo good, maybe with April Ethereal being my favourite first 1-2 minutes of a song.
