right but let's say you want to grab a movie sample out of windows media player into soundforge. you can't do this digitally unless your soundcard's software offers digital loopback. my Echo MIA does not.

Id also recommend an E-MU card though im real happy with my delta 44 (u can get that one too below a hunderd pounds ) planning to get an 8 in 8 out e-mu soon, just a question does the patchmix in the e-mu cards work similar to the m-audio control panel?

Damn, all this talk of the 1212M intrigues me... Would you guys say, if I was just looking to upgrade my interface, I'd be better off replacing my Audiophile 2496 with the 1212M and use my VTB-1 preamp, M-Box, or the new MOTU Ultralite?

the good thing about the ultralite is that you can use it on laptop or pc (with pci converter), and that firewire expandability is great too. i'd go that route if you can afford it.
