back on topic, i need to know the secret of the BUTA2, ive been staring at it for days now and cannot figure it out!
Im quite dissapointed to learn that Emi is a regular guy, i always imagined he actually had the Vendetta mask for a face and lived in a castle staffed by ensourcled peasants...oh well.

ahahaha... you can't imagine how many emails i got in the last week regarding the terrorizer interview... almost everybody believed i was 1) some kind of Undead Overlord 2) 220cm tall with horns and wings 3) a scary freak eating babies and drinking blood... hehehe it was fun to see the reaction when they realized i'm just a nornal guy... hihihihi
anyway i will NEVEr, EVER reveal the hidden game inside BUTA2, just bear in mind it is EXTREMELY difficult this time, because it pissed me off when 2 weeks after the release a guy from Ancona in italy managed to find the solution of the previous game on BUTA1, so now the game is really hard, but the reward is AMAZING, believe me

A dieci anni esatti dalla propria nascita la Code666 si autocelebra con la parte seconda di Better Undead Than Alive (la prima parte essendo uscita nel 2003).
Per loccasione la fondamentale etichetta di Emiliano Lanzoni mette insieme il proprio rooster con una serie di canzoni inedite, composte apposta per la presente compilation.
Ricordo perfettamente la nascita delletichetta e ho avuto la fortuna di recensire praticamente tutto (o quasi) il suo catalogo, che contiene assolute perle di valore, a testimonianza della bravura, della passione e della lungimiranza di Emiliano Lanzoni e del suo staff. Daltronde che Emiliano fosse una persona davvero addentro alla materia sonora era già testimoniato dalla band nella quale suonava, i Miskatonic University (lhardcore che incontra Lovecraft). Devo, inoltre, ammettere che mi sento parte del successo riscosso dalletichetta, visto che con le mie recensioni, quasi sempre positivissime, ho contribuito a dare rilevanza al lavoro della label. Per esempio ricordo perfettamente il loro primo top album, che fu del sottoscritto su Metal Shock, e riguardava i Void Of Silence di Criteria Ov 666. Ricordo lentusiasmo delletichetta e della band, che mi invitarono a festeggiare con loro in quel di Roma, invito che declinai cortesemente, sebbene non vi fosse alcunché di male, e devo ammettere che i rapporti in questi anni sono sempre stati cordiali e improntati alla correttezza. La qual cosa nel panorama italico è merce rara, se è vero che ci sono recensori ed etichette che fanno continuamente a lingua in bocca, quando non sono impegnati a minacciarsi per un voto brutto o per un cd non regalato.
Il resto lavete fatto voi lettori, acquistando i dischi prodotti dalla Code666, legittimandone il meritato successo.
Detto questo, veniamo al disco in questione. È presente praticamente tutto il rooster delletichetta, impreziosito dalla collaborazione di Davide Tiso degli Ephel Duath (ora su Earache ma lanciati dalla Code666), il quale fa da collante tra i diversi pezzi, con brevi composizioni strumentali, tra postcore slabbrato e rallentato e visioni lisergiche ed oniriche.
Nel disco è presente il black metal in dosi cospicue, sebbene non nella sua forma più primigenia e grezza. Infatti si va dai Minethorn, con Icons (Of The Cursed Earth, pezzo inquietante e minaccioso, ricco di negatività, agli The Axis Of Perdition, con Chained In The Damnation Asylum, i quali, mettendo da parte le controverse sperimentazioni dellultimo deludente Urfe, ritornano al black metal degli esordi, cattivo e ferale, sebbene infettato dal germe industriale. Ma occorre parlare anche dei mostruosi Diabolicum, anchessi autori di un maligno, antiumano e glaciale black metal, con Salvation Through Vengeance, per finire ai Negura Bunget, i quali, con Cumpana, danno un assaggio del loro prossimo full lenght, con un pezzo dalle atmosfere incredibili.
Con mia grande gioia e sorpresa è presente anche una nuova composizione dei Void Of Silence, la strumentale Instrumental Void", un pezzo che, ad essere sincero, non mi ha impressionato molto, appiattito comè su un mood apocalittico stereotipato, sebbene la canzone raggiunga vette di malinconia e tristezza notevoli; manca però la cattiveria, e un certo mood venefico del quale auspico il ritorno (per intederci quello dei primi due dischi della band).
Conferme arrivano anche dagli Herrshchaft, che hanno un tiro allucinante e dai Fen, i quali chiudono il disco con una suite lunghissima, ben 15 minuti. Twilight Descends (Eulogy) è una lenta discesa nellabisso, una ineluttabile deriva verso la perdizione.
Buoni ma non trascendentali i pezzi di Damned Spirit Dance, The Oath e The Prophecy.
Fermo restando che questo Better Undead Than Alive 2 è una compilation e quindi in buona sostanza un disco estemporaneo, resta la assoluta qualità della materia sonora, impreziosita dal fatto che ci troviamo di fronte ad inediti che non troverete in nessun disco delle bands che hanno partecipato. Fate le vostre valutazioni e decidete se questo disco vale i vostri soldi.
Per quel che mi riguarda approfitto per fare gli auguri alla Code666 e augurarle lunga vita.

This stronghold for the wonderfully bizarre has a well-earned reputation of offering up a consistent flow of unique metal in a variety of styles, and its because of this intrigue that I look into just about everything they do, even if not all their releases blow my hair back in the end. To celebrate their tenth anniversary, Code666 has managed to not only put together a compilation actually worth listening to, but even worth paying for. Not only does Better Undead Than Alive 2 offer up a bulging 79 minutes of completely unreleased music, but the Code666 folks handed over the tracks to Ephel Duath mastermind Davide Tiso to sequence and edit the album, along with contributing short, instrumental tracks between each song in order to blend the moods of the material and lend to listenability.
The album leans heavily on black, industrial, and avant-garde metal, and sometimes delivered all at the same time. But its the black metal based names here that make the biggest splash. Negura Bungets Cumpana shows that the Romanian wizards still have more than a few tricks up their sleeve even after their classic lineup imploded. And the story with The Axis of Perdition song is that there IS NO STORY, rather this is straightforward black metal, leaving behind the narrated style of the head-scratcher Urfe. Elsewhere, upstarts Fen close the record with the 15-minute Twilight Descends (Eulogy), which splits its runtime between moody black tones and yawning post-metal. The more industrial edged bands offer up inconsistent efforts. Minethorns slow churning Icons doesnt quite live up to their Junk Hive Noir debut, but is solid nonetheless, while Herrschafta band that seems to be losing its waykicks in the underwhelming Abysmal Wounds.
With any compilation, even one as slyly designed as this one, its inevitable that youll find some jewels and a few entirely skippable tunes, especially with artists as divergent as the Code666 stable. The Prophecys Opeth colliding with Toad the Wet Sprocket on Adrift nears the top of my list. But if you enjoy the atypical in any of its many flavors, Better Undead Than Alive 2 offers enough quality material of different stripes that youre likely to find a good handful of asskicking oddity to embrace. Heres to the next ten years.

Ottima iniziativa della Code666 che per celebrare il suo decimo anno di attività pubblica il secondo volume di Better Undead Than Alive. Il disco di cui andiamo a parlare non è in effetti la solita compilation, piuttosto un concept album nel quale partecipa la crema del rooster delletichetta. Le band selezionate sono in massima parte dedite alla commistione tra metal estremo ed elettronica, possiamo ridurre il tutto al denominatore comune di industrial se vogliamo, ma in questo album vi è di più. Ogni band interpreta un brano con il proprio marchio di fabbrica e accanto ai vari pezzi troviamo dei bridge electronic/ambient di Davide Tiso degli Ephel Duath a fungere da introduzione per ogni capitolo. Come dicevamo, ognuno dei gruppi presenti interpreta una canzone a modo suo, utilizzando una differente visione del concetto di industrial. Una scelta ottima, ideale per rendere lascolto vario e sempre degno di attenzione, ancor più gratificante è scoprire poi come i risultati siano quasi sempre incoraggianti, a dimostrazione di come i musicisti coinvolti non abbiamo percepito il progetto come un mero dovere, ma vi si siano impegnati fino in fondo. Se i Minethorn si limitano a un buon mestiere con il loro black venato di elettronica, gli Axis Of Perdition tolgono il fiato regalando allopera un ambient oscuro e soffocante che questa volta, nonostante le sonorità dellultimo studio album Urfe, non disdegna un excursus nel passato extreme metal degli inglesi. Proseguendo nellascolto ecco i Damned SpiritsDance risvegliare lo spirito degli Arcturus con una Abandoned Emptiness ricca di risvolti techno e dannatamente intrigante. Sempre convincenti i nostrani Void Of Silence, autori del consueto doom rarefatto e dal corpo elettronico, mentre i più tamarri apprezzeranno lottima Abyssal Wounds degli Herrschaft, traccia laccata dalle forti tinte harsh/EBM. Meno originali, forse perché dediti a un death metal canonico, troviamo i The Oath, ma si ritorna su buoni livelli con il doom à la My Dying Bride dei The Prophecy e con il black atmosferico, ricco di risvolti futuristici offerto dai Negura Bunget. In chiusura, spazio a una oscura litania folk targata Fen.
Better Undead Than Alive Vol.2 da voce a numerosi artisti liberi da vincoli formali e, nonostante alcune ombre (aggiungiamo che non tutte le tracce strumentali di Davide Tiso sono allaltezza), si rivela un prodotto di qualità ineccepibile.

Die schönsten Geschenke sind meistens die, die man sich selber macht. Dachte sich wohl auch das italienische Label Code666, das zum zehnten Geburtstag den zweiten Teil der "Better Undead Than Alive"-Reihe präsentiert. Natürlich wäre das Ganze eher weniger ein Geschenk, wenn es sich nur einen schnöden Labelsampler handeln würde, aber das ist dem Label zu schäbig: Alle Tracks wurden extra für diesen Anlass geschrieben und aufgenommen. Neben den Beiträgen der ganzen Bands aus dem eigenen Stall hat auch man auch EPHEL DUATH-Mastermind Davide Tiso [das erste EPHEL DUATH-Album "Phormula" erschien auf Code666 - das Nächste nach dem Earache-Split vielleicht auch?] engagiert, um ein paar stimmungsvolle Interludes zu schaffen, das dem Ganzen mehr oder weniger einen "Ein Album von vielen Bands"-Anstrich geben soll. Dass das nicht so ganz gelingt, liegt allerdings nicht an Davide, sondern daran, dass sich hier einfach zu viele unterschiedliche Heransgehensweisen und Atmosphären tummeln, als dass man wirklich von einem homogenen Album sprechen könnte.
Der Großteil der Scheibe ist schwarzmetallisch angehaucht, aber Code666 sind dafür bekannt, eher die ungewöhnlichen Bands eines Genres zu veröffentlichten, so dass man auf dieser CD zwar nicht durchgehend hohe Qualität, aber doch durch die Bank nonkonformistisches serviert bekommt. Da gibt es dann einige Industrial-angehauchte Dunkelkittelei wie THE AXIS OF PERDITION, [MINE]THORN [cool!], VOID OF SILENCE, DIABOLICUM [mit SHINING-Kvarforth am Gesang] oder HERRSCHAFT [nervig!], die den Großteil des Samplers ausmacht, aber auch die etwas anderen Bands wie THE PROPHECY [interessanter Stilmix!], NEGURA BUNGET [nicht unbedingt der stärkste Song, den sie je aufgenommen haben] und die Ambient-Black Metaller FEN, die sich nicht haben lumpen lassen und den Sampler mit dem fünfzehnminütigen [!] "Twilight Descends [Eulogy]" beschließen. Und man muss auch klar sagen, dass sich Code666 hier das Beste für den Schluss aufgehoben haben, denn dieser Song ist wunderbar und lässt zum ersten [und letzten Mal] Gänsehaut auf der Scheibe aufkommen. Die Interludes von Herrn Tiso erinnern allesamt atmosphärisch an etwas merkwürdige "Through My Dog's Eyes"-Album seiner Hauptband und stören nicht großartig, tragen aber auch nicht unbedingt zum Zusammenhalt der Compilation bei. Trotzdem nette Idee.
Wir halten fest: "Better Undead Than Alive 2" bietet wie auch schon sein Vorgänger die tolle Grundidee, dass die Bands eigens für diesen Anlass Songs schreiben und aufnehmen, was ein großer Aufwand für eine Compilation ist, aber leider kann auch diese Methode nicht für ein perfektes Hörerlebnis sorgen. Ein paar guten Beiträgen stehen einige Füller gegenüber, Licht und Schatten. Lohnenswert ist die Anschaffung aber auf jeden Fall für FEN-Fans, die hier einen wirklich tollen Track geboten bekommen. Aber auch alle anderen, die sich von der Idee und den beteiligten Bands angesprochen fühlen, sollte diesem Teil eine Chance geben.

Der Großteil der Scheibe ist schwarzmetallisch angehaucht, aber Code666 sind dafür bekannt, eher die ungewöhnlichen Bands eines Genres zu veröffentlichten, so dass man auf dieser CD zwar nicht durchgehend hohe Qualität, aber doch durch die Bank nonkonformistisches serviert bekommt. Da gibt es dann einige Industrial-angehauchte Dunkelkittelei wie THE AXIS OF PERDITION, [MINE]THORN [cool!], VOID OF SILENCE, DIABOLICUM [mit SHINING-Kvarforth am Gesang] oder HERRSCHAFT [nervig!], die den Großteil des Samplers ausmacht, aber auch die etwas anderen Bands wie THE PROPHECY [interessanter Stilmix!], NEGURA BUNGET [nicht unbedingt der stärkste Song, den sie je aufgenommen haben] und die Ambient-Black Metaller FEN, die sich nicht haben lumpen lassen und den Sampler mit dem fünfzehnminütigen [!] "Twilight Descends [Eulogy]" beschließen. Und man muss auch klar sagen, dass sich Code666 hier das Beste für den Schluss aufgehoben haben, denn dieser Song ist wunderbar und lässt zum ersten [und letzten Mal] Gänsehaut auf der Scheibe aufkommen. Die Interludes von Herrn Tiso erinnern allesamt atmosphärisch an etwas merkwürdige "Through My Dog's Eyes"-Album seiner Hauptband und stören nicht großartig, tragen aber auch nicht unbedingt zum Zusammenhalt der Compilation bei. Trotzdem nette Idee.
Wir halten fest: "Better Undead Than Alive 2" bietet wie auch schon sein Vorgänger die tolle Grundidee, dass die Bands eigens für diesen Anlass Songs schreiben und aufnehmen, was ein großer Aufwand für eine Compilation ist, aber leider kann auch diese Methode nicht für ein perfektes Hörerlebnis sorgen. Ein paar guten Beiträgen stehen einige Füller gegenüber, Licht und Schatten. Lohnenswert ist die Anschaffung aber auf jeden Fall für FEN-Fans, die hier einen wirklich tollen Track geboten bekommen. Aber auch alle anderen, die sich von der Idee und den beteiligten Bands angesprochen fühlen, sollte diesem Teil eine Chance geben.
