Never been a big fan either. My appreciation of the song kind of spiked a while back when I learned how to play it, but then it got even more boring. The title track, the Funeral Portrait and The Leper Affinity are all more interesting to me.

Funeral Portrait is ace. Too bad they didn't play it the 3 times I saw them.
And it's such a fun song to play

that's how it goes, I'm pretty sure..the higher pitched parts are definitely Steve, otherwise Mike'd sing it that way live (he sings it in a lower pitch by a few steps)

I think it is one of the most pure Opeth songs written. It reflects where the sound intended to go all the way through Still Life and was supposed to go on Deliverance.

Unlike songs on Deliverance, it doesn't bore you to death with unnecessarily repetitive sections or recourse to less appealing riffage.

Then, it beats down on most of the Still Life style songs due to a bit of simplicity and a little more succinctness. It gets to the point, is melodic and has some cool riffs. It also feels a little more natural than some of the other songs in progression from breakdown to verse and verse to chorus etc, which is greatly needed given Opeth's lack of song structure finesse.

Finally, as someone else mentioned, it is wicked live (like pretty much all of the catalogue upt to and including some of Deliverance).

I can't see why you wouldn't like this song, if you like anything beyond Morningrise.
