'bout when alexi bought his esp

I've read somewhere that when the wildchild got stolen, alexi went to jackson to ask for a new one, and then jackson said that they would get his guitar in a year, and then alexi asked esp to make it, in half the time.
My question is, why did it took so long? I never knew anyone who bought guitars at a custom shop(something to do with the price$), it's just a lot cheaper to make it at a local luthier, and the results in finish and sound are the same if not better, and those wood guys make a brand new guitar out from scratch in two months...sounds weird that a big company will take as long as six months to finish an instrument

1. He didn't buy the ESP's. He got an endorsement deal with them, so the guitars were free.
2. The reason for the long delivery time of a new Jackson was because Fender had just bought the Jackson company and were hesitating around, plus after the buy-out Jackson didn't really have a good way to export the guitars to Finland since they were now under Fender and their ways of business.

That's pretty much how I've understood it. ESP was faster in taking Alexi in

think that a customshopp has 20 or so staff and a productioin queue of 300 guitars a year each taking 2 months to build.
