Brett loves the Torpedo - Torpedo Live content

(/off)

I have a question. Brett is able to sound impressively well up to with a broom. But do you think of a guy like me???. You think that the Torpedo Live can get high quality sound without too many complications??? There is much difference in sound quality between the Torpedo Live and Vb101????. I am not Brett and I am not one of these people from this forum, that sound really good with few resources. I want to buy something that sounds good and you can get high quality results without be Brett Kalisia.

A greeting.

The Torpedo is the closest you'll get to micing a real amp in my experience. It does not sound better or much worse than that, it's not made to sound good, it's made to sound authentic/realistic :)
So it's not a secret weapon that will make your mixes much better if you have access to great cabinets, microphones and are able to blast the volume out of your amps. If you don't, then the Torpedo is definitely a very very good option for you to consider and will help your mixes get better (because a real amp sounds better than a Pod or stuff like that).
The VB-101 IS better than the Live, but the Live is very good on its own. The VB-101 has higher quality connections, components, high-end converters, you can use 2 mics at the same time, etc. But it costs more, takes more space and weights A LOT more. Hope that helps :)

Brett Thank you so much for your help. I am apprentice. I started mix 2 years ago, with no knowledge and I am working hard.
I've used so far to record VST and POD, but I have a Mesa Boogie Roadster and a 6505 with modified to my liking. With the Torpedo Live, what I want is to get a basic high quality sound , and then process this sound to my taste for mixing. I want something with more quality than VST and use my 6505 and my Roadster without the hassle of miking a screen in a home and without use of VST with the impulse response.

I not hope me to confuse with the Torpedo Live to get very satisfactory results.

A greeting.

Brett, in the official page of Two Notes i read that the Torpedo Live have loadbox analogique REACTIVE with 100W but in other place i read that Puissance admissible max : 150W RMS

I see in your video that you used a ENGL Savage with 120w of power.

Can i used any amplifier with a max power of 150w?

In a first moment i thought that Two Notes page had a error because in a place had written 100w and in other place had written 150w.

I see that you used the ENGL Savage 120w by this i believe that i can used my Peavy 6505 with 120w without problem unless that your ENGL Savage 120w would had a modification with a power reduction.

Greetings

I think he didn't mean to pull out tubes.
What people often don't understand is that a 120w amp only uses 120w when it is fully cranked. It doesn't need as much when it gives out a lower volume. It doesn't use 120w all the time

Thank you both for the responses (Skaldir and Brett). I thought the volume was independent to respect the values of maximum input power. I have a volumen with my 6505 of 3,5 postgain. This volume is good in my settings. In other time i used the 6505 with two valves only in the power. With two valves had a 60w of power and this power was enough for me. I dont have problem if i need put the power of 6505 in 60w.

Anyway it's always good to work safely with electrical issues. I do not want to buy a live torpedo and crash it because i have connected an amp more powerful than it should.

Victor Smolski used the VB-101 for the new RAGE album, see this video:yow:

... and the guitars in this "21" album sound so incredible!!

I know this is just nit picking, but 120W is the RMS value. Idle is a bit lower, peak can be much higher. In the 200-300W range.

sick tone and playing here indeed !

Wondering what setup (cab/mic/mic position/parameters) he used on the Torpedo... Sounds a lot like Engl head-> 412 V30 engl cab -> SM57 to me, with a good amount of gain, regular metal EQ settings on the engl head, and quadtracking...
or maybe a blend of SM57 + Royer 121 or something ?

how does this unit compare to a palmer pdi-03?

completely different beasts with different price/quality/amount of features : IMO, it's like comparing a POD with only one amp sim, with an axe fx/eleven rack or even an high-end amp with a lot of tweakability and versatility, like a Mesa Boogie Roadster or an Engl Special Edition
or comparing the POD 1.0 speaker cab/mic sims with the current Nebula/Recabinet stuff

the Palmer is way cheaper of course, and has been there for way longer, and can do the job for some (and that's what a lot of pros (Jerry Cantrell among others) have been using live before the Torpedo & cie came around)

check out the official website and videos to see what it's about, it's well documented
