I've been listening to samples of this group, or in this case one guy, and so far I like it, the vocals just sound odd to me, like a bat or a little kid wailing his head off. Opinions?

Yeah, his vocals fucking suck. I tried to get by it by fooling myself: "he sounds so tortured and awesome!" Nope. Just picturing him, alone in the studio, wailing his head off makes me laugh. Filosofem vocals are good though.

He was involved with starting a new wave of black metal. Along with bands like Darkthrone in their early days, and Satyricon again, in their early days. Other bands like Covenant and Immortal were also part of it. And I believe Old Funeral too.
Varg himself is a wanker, yes. But that is like a picture of him before he went to court or something probably, because in most other photographs he looks like a regular black metal dude.

I will agree with you there. I prefer Filosofem and Hvis Lyset Tar Oss to a lot of the black metal of that era, but nowadays there's stuff like Negura Bunget's OM that just blows it out of the fucking water...akin to what a hydrogen bomb would do to a kitten. Imo, of course.

I've been looking at some info on Varg and holy fuck dude, this shit is fucked up. Honestly I don't see why people would idolize this guy, or why anyone would worship satan. He doesn't give a shit about us so why bother.

Okay, I'm not getting into a black metal argument but I'll just say this:
I am not a fan of black metal. Darkthrone, Immortal, Marduk, they all disgust me. I am, however, a fan of music that sounds good to me whether or not it's in the black metal genre. I don't care if Burzum is a legendary act and a staple of black metal, I can honestly tell you that Negura Bunget totally obliterates most of the black metal that I've listened to so I listen to it and I enjoy it. Pulling the "not in my opinion, but objectively, in fact" bullshit is exactly that...bullshit and you fucking know it. I hate these black metal arguments because it ultimately boils down to a few people that think they're elite because they "get" black metal in all of it's shittiness against the rest of the forum that, like me, listen to music because we enjoy it, not because it's black metal and we're supposed to.
I won't be posting in this thread any more so any retorts will go unanswered.
