OK so imagine that you had the power to dictate what Maiden play on this next tour. What 20-song setlist do you hand them? And you can be as demanding as you like. :D

Phantom of the Opera
Wasted Years
Killers
Brave New World
Infinite Dreams
The Trooper
Sign of the Cross
Prowler
The Prophecy
Rime of the Ancient Mariner
22 Acacia Avenue
Revelations
Stranger in a Strange Land

Encores:
Aces High (with Winston Churchill speech intro thank you very much)
Powerslave
The Clairvoyant
Wrathchild
Hallowed Be Thy Name

Well, one can dream, right..?

Moonchild
Be Quick Or Be Dead
Murders In The Rue Morgue
Children Of The Damned
Phantom Of The Opera
Revelations
The Evil That Men Do

Besides, how many more times do I need to see them do the Trooper or Wrathchild?
:loco:

You're right, these are the obvious ones. But half of the experience is the live atmosphere. And when the whole venue starts heaving to The Trooper (for example), you can't deny the fun! :hotjump:

Having said that, I noticed we all left out Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills! Those songs have been done to death.

If I wasn't too worried about crowd participation, I would have included stuff like Back in the Village or Transylvania.

I just feel like stating that "Sanctuary" rules. I have a soft spot for the very early 'Maiden stuff. Just so straightforward and unpretentious, unlike the Harris epics I whined about in the other Maiden setlist thread... Anyone agree?

I would like to see the first two albums and two of the three overplayed songs from side two of NOTB (guess which one I'd spare? Hallowed is the album's real timeless classic.) forever banished from the setlist. Josh's fantasy set is awesome, just substitute some side one NOTB tracks (children of the fucking damned!) or the never performed live trilogy on Powerslave (tracks 4-6) for the Blaze tunes. :)

Abso 'friggin' lutely! IM is where it all begain, and Killers is a FANTASTIC album, and I think Paul Di'Anno adds so much punk to the metal that you just get time warped back to the east end of London in the late 70's.

Harris epics can be hit or miss, I agree - Phantom of the Opera on the debut is still his second best epic (after Rime) IMO. The music style was different on the first two, and I have to say that I prefer Paul's vocals over Bruce's when it comes to material on those albums.

This was also the time when they wore jeans and biker jackets, not lycra stockings and gym vests...:erk:

Not sure if I understand you Demonspell. Are you talking about just the songs they always play live, or writing off the first two albums altogether? If Maiden ever decided to play Transylvania, Phantom of the Opera, Chrlotte the Harlot, Prowler, Wrathchild, Murders in the Rue Morgue, and Killers, I would not be complaining at all.

the never performed live trilogy on Powerslave (tracks 4-6) for the Blaze tunes. :)

Agreed. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: one of the best guitar riffs on one of the greatest albums EVER: Back in the Village. I'd like to see Mr Gers play that one, arf arf.

Dude, I knew you were going to spout off some of those songs... and all I can say is every last one of those songs (Transylvania, Phantom of the Opera, Chrlotte the Harlot, Prowler, Wrathchild, Murders in the Rue Morgue, and Killers) has appeared on a live album or three of theirs...

I want shit I haven't seen or heard live... Back In The Village is a good one.. but I'm sorry bro, some of you guys give Gers too much flack. If you listen to the live albums w/ him.. especially "Where Eagles Dare" off of Real Live Dead One, his playing is top fucking notch!

His performance on Rock In Rio was stellar as well..

Yeah but come on Papa, hearing it on audio and seeing it live is totally different. I don't dispute this stuff being on some CD or vinyl, but for personal reasons, I would want to see this live.

I've seen Maiden about 4 times (since '91), and I have never once got Transylvania, Phantom of the Opera, Charlotte the Harlott, Prowler, Murders, or Killers. Yes, I've seen Wratchild at each show so you can archive that one if you must.

By the way, which live CD is that stuff on? Is it on the Eddie boxset? I might have to get that but $85 is a lot of $$.

In everyone else's defence, it's only me that slags on Janick Gers (I think), but that's because I'm a purist. When Iron Maiden retire, I'll always remember them most fondly for their pre-7th Son days (to be completely honest).

Oh, and I slag Janick as well.

I want Maiden's classics, as I've stated elsewhere, and I want them to retire some overplayed stuff, like "Iron Maiden."

I don't have an aversion to the early stuff, I just want to see cool shit like "Phantom..." and "Sanctuary" instead of "Running Free" or "Wrathchild."

Just my additional $.02 :)

And I thought I was alone in this madness. :D I do concede, though, that Gers and Bailey helped keep the machine buoyant (for the time that they were needed).

Did anyone know that Edu Fulaschi (Angra) was runner-up to Blaze Bailey for the job Maiden HQ? I'd wonder if Bruce would have ever returned had Edu been given the job (pity for him, he had a Brazilian passport).

Thing is though, do they even play Running Free anymore? I don't think they do. But I wouldn't want it anyway, heh. It used to go on and on forever, but I'll take it over a Nicko McBrain drum solo anyday. ;)
