I think it's a great song, just not a great album closer. Naturally it's up against the likes of White Cluster and Blackwater Park and it really just doesn't hold a candle. See if it was track 2 and let's say Deliverance or A Fair Judgement were the closers, I think Deliverance would be quite a different experience.
As for the verse riff, I love it and love the repetition. On the album the distortion sort of hides the quality of the riff, but when you play it yourself on acoustic you think, that is the most evil fucking riff I have ever come across.
