You need to sign up to get it, but you don't need to download and install the Command Center thing they show you at first. I just downloaded the plug-in from my account after I registered.
Haven't tried the plug-in though.

No not att all mainly for vocal. It can be used on anything. But like any compressor it might the right for some instrument in a song and wrong in the next one.
