Can Rick Rubin save Metallica?

Hell yes he can. Everyone is so negative with Metallica but look at their setlists they play today. METAL UP YOUR A$$!!!!!! Even if the next album sucks who does it really hurt? We need to root for Metallica because like them or not they are truly legendary and I hope that Rick and James leads Metallica to one more kick ass album. I think St. Anger disappointed so much because of all the hype surrounding it, including all of the crap that the band went through. Rick will help them, and if the album is a consensus suckfest then they need to probably give it up. Even though I still like seeing them live.

Uh...the setlist they had immediately following the release of St Anger was even better than what they're playing now.

when I saw them live in 2004 they played and played well.........

Fight Fire with Fire
Seek And Destroy
Four Horsemen
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Disposable Heroes
Leper Messiah
Battery
Master Of Puppets
One
Dyers Eve
Blackened
Damage Inc.
Fade to Black
Creeping Death
Sanitarium (Welcome Home)
Ride The Lightning
Trapped Under Ice
Blitzkrieg
Am I Evil?
Breadfan
Phantom Lord
Thing That Should Not Be

I saw them three different times and saw three different BAD ASS setlists. I hope that they can put out one more good album, but for christ sakes guys, they are old.

Don't give a shit about them....thats fine, but they are legends in Metal weather you like it or not. Led Zepplein, Sabbath, Stones, Beatles, all had weird mediocore crap in their carrers and they don't get shit on by all of their former fans because they got old. The disrespect from Metal fans towards Metallica is really weird. Did St. Anger and Reload absolutely suck? Yes, but that doesn't discredit what they have accomplished. Am I a fan of St.Anger, unfortuanetly I hated it, but I don't hate them because they made it. They are legends and should get more respect from metal fans. It is just the "cool" thing to dislike them right now, and IMO that is sad because you can't take away what they have done for Metal. I will always appreciate that.

If any one can save them it is Rubin

There set from South Africa just recently was pretty hot, sure they played some shit. But they played seek harvester and older stuff like that

I don't have much confidance that it will be a good album, but I'll give it a shot when it comes out, because at one time they did make kickass music, maybe they have a little left in 'em...

Just because they know that their old stuff is fuckloads better than anything they've put out in many years, doesn't mean that they remember how they did it.

well, at least they've finally figured out that nobody wants to hear their 90's shit live.

I'm debating whether to just buy the new album when it comes out or wait a while to preview some songs and read fan and expert reviews first.

I disliked them since the Black album.. around 1991-1993 ... you weren't even a cumshot inside your mother at that time.. so no it's not a "cool" thing or a recent thing.. the old school hardcore metallica fans lost interest around that time like me.. last time i bother to see them live was in 1988 ... and they haven't done anything for metal since Master of Puppets.. everything after that album was generic or non important to metal in general ... Zep, Sabbath, Stones etc.. never got the same reaction because they always managed to make a album or two that is classic or rooted in their earlier work... Metallica hasnt.. maybe with Rick they will make a comeback to their roots pre 1988 ... if not .. they should just disappear. the worst thing they ever did was bring Bob Rock on their albums to produce... getting Rick Rubin was the only smart thing they have done in years.... i would of prefered they get Flemming Rasmussen.. but hey let's see what happens.. maybe they will restore my faith in them...
