If it is still called black metal it has to have at least the basic definition.

Really......from the responses you'd think black metal wasn't a musical genre. While lyrics might have some bearing, the music is 90% of what defines a genre.

Well it does depend on how you define black metal, but how do we really know it's roots were in Satanic or anti-Christian messages? We don't. For all we know, some dude in a garage could've invented the genre and never recorded a thing. It is only identified with these types of lyrics because Venom and Bathory were the first to do it who also recorded and released their material. Bathory later dropped the Satanism though, just as Death dropped the gore lyrics. That should tell us something when founding bands realize their mistakes like that. They obviously don't want to found an entire style that is restrained to one type of message.

The mythology Quorthon became interested in was no more congruent with Christianity than the ideology of his earlier work. Death's later work was rock-orientated and far from innovative, so I discount it. And if somebody didn't record their ideas then they don't get credited, we can only go by what we know, as with the world. Regardless, all the bands notorious for having created and evolved the BM *scene* were certainly in opposition to Christianity.

Bathory didn't drop the Satanism because Quorthon felt it was a "mistake" or though they were "restraining the style". He did it because he got sick of rumors floating around everywhere and people questioning him on him if he was a Satanist and criticizing him for his alleged beliefs. It was about being sick of getting shit from people over his lyrics, not feeling they were restricting or anything along those lines.

I still think that no matter what Ideology is put with it, Black Metal is put with feelings foremost, as is almost all music. When I hear black metal, I don't think about Anti-Christian music, I feel the emotions they're trying to convey. Everyone has the emotions conveyed, so if you have the musical skill and inspiration, you can create it.

I was only saying that Quorthon moved his lyrics to his own country's religion, instead of bashing someone else's. If you regard Death's later work as "far from innovative", I suppose I'm dealing with more of a purist than I thought. Most of today's (good) music derives somewhat of an influence from classical music, if not a huge influence from it. So many of those classical composers were Christians and wrote just as dark and "inappropriate" music for the church that was seen as Christian black metal is seen today. We'll get over it in time.

The only reason we have these Christian alternatives to so many styles is because faith is pretty much being left out of everything but "worship" music these days. I'm not sure thats a bad thing, but you do have to believe in what you sing in or else that passion and power isn't there to better the music. Somewhere along the way, people started singing about mindless crap like drugs, sex, booze, gang wars, and being as "evil" or anti-trendy as possible fit with that mentality, I suppose. Christianity happens to be a trend in this age, I'll admit it. It's just another form of rebellion (whether you like it or not) to criticize one of the big Western religions of today, but so it is with this Christian metal against all this Satanic, anti-religious stuff.

I was going to bring this up about how Black Metal's large influence is Classical, which is Christian.....but he'd probably say something about how music started out Pagan or something so that's the original purpose. Whatever.

sorry, but actually its 2000. not 4000. and its written quite legibly if you can understand the language.

what i find unoriginal is bashing the world's most "cool to hate" religion without backing up that distate with anything more than short fragments of profanity and chaotic rage.

Fuck you. I've had it up to the hilt with arguing with you and your ilk. You've been brainwashed into stupidity and servitude and obviously are quite content in that position. I'd tell you to be happy with you're impotent god but he doesn't exist! And even if all your bullshit was true I'd have to go with satan then. At least he's not portrayed as a childish demanding psycho that demands everyone to go against every single natural urge that is built into us.
I find it so offensive that you come here and try to spread your disease. Because that's what your sick little society demands, isn't it? Spread the word, don't hide your light under a basket and be fishers of men and all the worthless hogwash. Don't deny it. You think if you get people to listen to that shit then you can get your hooks in. All part of the plan. I would say that most here don't want to be part of your web of lies so shake the sand from your feet motherfucker and move on to the next place.
Live your little fairytale life with blinders on and obey your zionist masters and go pound fucking salt for all that I care.
And no, you did not "win" or any other bullshit. I'm not the fool that's pissing his life away on a pipe dream.

There you go Zhou Tai 04, I edited it in with some "scriptural" references so now it isn't so baseless for ya, bucko.

Not all of us choose to believe
Some of us choose to live
Not all of us follow so blindly
And accept all that we hear

Maybe you're not so smart
To look outside yourself
Maybe you've chosen unwisely
In the God you've made your own

I'll be my own leader
I'll be my own saviour
I'll be the strength that carries
I'll be the light that guides...me
I will make you see
Your devotion is in vain
I'll be the one left standing
When all of you are kneeling
And smiling, so content
I'll wipe the smiles off your faces

Don't you dare pity me
I've made my choice and I'll prove you wrong

My voice will thunder through the heavens
And my flames of hatred burn
I believe in me and only me
And I bow to no sovereign

Such baseless hatred......

We don't need religion, we need sex, drugs and rock & roll. We need M.I.L.F's and horny teachers to molest us.

"Teacher caught me masturbating
underneath the desk
she looked at me and winked her eye
said "see you after class"
I heard the school bell ring that told
me that the day was done
she called me back and locked
the door my lessons just begun
Teachers pet
Teachers wet
Sitting down she crossed her
legs her skirt crept up her thigh
feeling something start to rise
my thought began to fly
You've been a naughty boy she said
now that you can't conceal
I'll have to punish you
the best way that I feel
Teachers pet
Teachers wet
She took my hand and gently placed it
in between her thighs
with open legs and heavy breath
she slowly closed her eyes
Her flesh was aching and her
hands began to stray
on thing that I know for sure
I won't forget today
Teachers pet
Teachers wet
Pulled me down forwards her mound
teacher tasted sweet
sixty-nine - I don't mean lines
this was teachers treat
Played hide and seek with teachers mouth
her lips were warm and wet
Now today I've had my way
and teacher won't forget
Teachers pet
Teachers wet"

Ahhh, how refreshing. You're like Nietzsche, but even dumber.

and Darth Kur, you're a fucking dolt and your arguments are shit.

I'll just add my $0.02 and say that if I want to get in touch with God through music, I'd rather do it through some speed metal than "Amazing Grace." It depends on subjectivity. If the patterns, tones, and harshness of metal music is what strikes your fancy, you'll play that music as well. And if you believe in Judeo-Christian ideology, you'll reflect that in your lyrics. So you'll have metal music and "Christian" lyrics.

OH NOES! CONTRADICTION! CONTRADICTION!
