Collective questions for Mr. Sneap -thread

One more question. I read that you use 421's and 57's on toms. Is that top and bottom or do you use 421's or 57's only? Maybe I misread your post.

edit: oops. just read it again. 57's top 98's bottom. sorry.

Andy,

Can you tell of some albums your Traditional *smaller* Mesa cabs were used on?

...... into a normal sized boogie cab with one 57. Check out the set up, this album was not glamorous!

Exodus, maybe. If "normal sized" means not oversize.

HERES ONE...

how much do you find yourself using the control24?
you do all your rides on it or do you draw them in?
do you use it at all for plugin control?

Andy, which project were you working on when you decided that you were going to go 100% in the box on and drop the analog summing, for the first time?

Good question.
I remember doing the fozzy album and I was having to do rough mixes so I did them in the box because I was halfway through another album and I was- hmmmm damn that sounds good.
I could notice the difference with analogue summing with the old TDM rig, esp without the dithered mixer but I found as long as I was sensible with the gain on each channel I was fine.
Even before the whole pro tools thing, I remember doing a Consumed album on adats at the old studio then mixing it on an SSL, then remixing it on a mackie and getting better results so I think you can only blame gear so far, it really is down to how you use what you have available and the likes of an SSL or Neve isn't going to save the day, tho they're fun to play on and they make you feel important.
I looked at buying an AWS900 a couple of years ago but I just couldn't warrant spending £50k on it.

Oh yeah, and another question: I understand that you get to try some of the 'new toys' in the market (like the Dave Mustaine signature cab for example), what has been one of those that you have purchased after trying or are seriously considered to get? And do have any endorsement deals?

Which was the last album you did mastering for?

I can't seem to find a list with albums on which you've done the mastering. The officials site lists produced/engineered/mixed.

I found this old post, and I wonder if it's still the case today:
"finalizer, oh my god" I hear you cry, well, put it this way, I've had stuff mastered all over the world, through god knows how many $$$ of gear and I still get better results doing it myself, through this, crazy but true,( I do keep it all in the digital domain)

I have another one.
When you build your new studio, did you call some specialized companies to do the works on it or did you do some works by yourself? Do those floating doors/windows work well for soundproofing?
Your studio looks very very cool.
