Ok everyone being that Opeth is known for their awesome concept albums, list your top 5 favorite concept albums...

1. Opeth - MAYH
2. Opeth - Still Life
3. Rush -2112
4. Rush - Hemispheres
5. Dream theater - SFAM

MAYH and Still Life are concept albums?!?!?!?!
Now i feel like a completely ignorant ass!
The only concept albums i know of (until now) are
Queensryche (i think it's them) - Operation: Mindcrime, which i've never heard
Symphony X - V: The New Mythology Suite - Currently my favourite album and
Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory

opeth - still life
dream theater - scenes from a memory
pain of salvation - perfect element pt. 1
opeth - my arms, your hearse
pain of salvation - entropia

Pink Floyd - The Wall
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Opeth - MAYH
Dream Theater - SFaM

Those are my favorites, but I love many of the others mentioned, especially A Pleasant Shade of Grey and Hemispheres.

Opeth - Still Life & MAYH
David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars
Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral (Yes, it IS a concept album.)

I don't know how to recognise a concept album just by looking at it, and I haven't read much about concept albums, so I won't be able to name one (even though I probably have some) excpet for one I know definitely is which is:

Raison D'etre - Within The Depths Of Silence And Phormations.

I don't know about five, but my favourite concept album is definitely 'Cruelty and the Beast' by Cradle of Filth.

'My Arms, Your Hearse' isn't far behind, though.

In no particular order:

Roger Waters - Radio K.A.O.S. (yes, the sound is dated but the story is good)
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Rush - Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres (they fit together into one story)
Pain Of Salvation - Remedy Lane (the real story of how relationships go wrong)
Nightingale - all three
Opeth - Still Life and MAYH

I haven't heard too many. But..

1: Opeth - MAYH. It's not all fancy, and it's solid. And it has songs with silent lyrics. And it doesn't get all cheesey and reflective at the end.

This is mostly true for Still Life also, but that one isn't quite as solid a concept album. If you didn't pay much attention, you might never know it was a story. But MAYH, you know something's up. It has endcap songs, the lyrics are all one big paragraph, and songs end with the name of the next song.

And then in no special order, 2-5:
Opeth - Still Life
Dream Theater - SFAM
Pain of Salvation - One Hour by the Concrete Lake
Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element Pt. 1

King diamond - abigail
king diamond - them
devil doll - dies irae
ulver - themes from william blake's the marriage of heaven & hell
fear factory - obsolete

argh... i want to list all devil doll & kd albums but those are the (current) top five...
