I was actually serious about the Nu Metal comment. Although I find the term to be a bit broad, describing a period of music rather than an actual type. (similar to grunge). I like System of a Down, I like Godsmack, I like KoRn, and I like all 5 songs Disturbed continues to re-release every few years.

I really don't understand the animosity towards it.

Since when? There are some bands that added rap elements to their music, but only a few songs of all the Nu Metal bands I've listened to could even be considered rap, and those would be fusion genres, still applicable to metal.
