Cryptopsy....

seriously people, the music of Cryptopsy is no more intricate or complex than a Slipknot album.

Hmmmm, I beg to differ. If you listen to some of the solos Cryptopsy have, you'll notice they are playing sweep apreggios at some incraments. Now, I don't think the guitarist in Slipknot even know what these are, let alone how to spell them. Another point is that Flo is infinitly a more intricate drummer than the drummer from Slipknot. Meh, Cryptopsy are more intricate than Slipknot in every respect, and any other band of the nu-metal genre, or hell, the death metal genre in general.

I have yet to hear a song from them with any sweep arpeggios...care to name a few? Okay, perhaps comparing them to Slipknot was an exaggeration, and I apologize. I was only trying to emphasize how much more technical other bands are. In my humble opinion, Cryptopsy deserves no form of praise whatsoever. They seem to be doing what many other bands in the sub-genre have done before. I'm sorry, maybe I just haven't heard the right songs, but they've yet to impress me. I just don't see what the big deal is....and add to that the fact that they have absolutely ZERO songwriting ability(I don't think anyone can argue that). Eh, to me it's just senseless noise.

Dad? So this is where you spend all your time, eh? No wonder mom wanted to borrow the batteries.

ROFL!
Yep....you caught me son...
As for the other guy, I'll listen to "Slit your Guts" again to see if you're indeed correct, but I don't remember hearing it.

Why are you even here arguing this futile case? You said you don't like that kind of music and it's senseless noise to you......so what makes you think that you're qualified to say they're crap when you have no idea what's going on?

Is Linkin Park more up your street or something?

Okay, I just heard "Slit your Guts" again and I'm having trouble finding any sweep arpeggio stuff....do you know what chord(s) is used? Or perhaps you can tell me at what time in the song the arpeggio kicks in?

Buddy, what the hell are you talking about? You seem to be the only one having a problem with me arguing the "futile" case that Cryptopsy is just noise with not much technicality. I'm qualified to say that because I feel I am educated on the subject and well....simply because I feel like saying it. Don't take it seriously, man...we're discussing music, not politics, governor. And no, I'm not too fond of Linkin Park(laughs). And by the way, if you really want to hear some technical stuff, listen to Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Porcupine Tree, Fates Warning, Amorphis, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Rush, Yes, Stratovarius, and even more commercial stuff like Tool. If you have anything bad to say about them in terms of musicianship, I'll laugh.

Steve Vai = God. Oh, and I might have given you the wrong song, or maybe its on the live version, because I just listened to it and I didn't detect the presense of one either. Meh, Cryptopsy is still technical.

Well, your list of technical bands/artists is fine and just, but it also exemplifies your lack of interest concerning death metal, and following that, very possibly your lack of knowledge. What scholar has the will or or drive to learn about things that don't interest them? You may be educated on the subject of music theory/playing technique, but it doesn't follow that you can dissect or classify a band's ability in a notoriously chaotic and dense genre that you don't even like.

Yngwie Malmsteen < that is senseless 'noise'. He for one can't write anything interesting to save his life, regardless of how skilled he is.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahhahahahahahahhahaahaha The laugh belongs to me. I knew ou were a wanker before even this post. It was apparent before you stated it. Malmsteen hahahahahhahahahahaha
You are a fool. So what malmsteen has speed and endurance. A monkey could become a malmsteen if it had nothing better to do in life besides sit around and wank all day. Its only muscle memory. He can't compose for the life of him. He wouldn't know rhythm if it bit him in the ass. Why are you so concerned with sweeps? I know people who can wank all night and day but can't hold a simple death metal rhythm(although more complex rhythmically than wanking). I hope you don't find any sweeps in cryptopsy because if it takes that for you to respect them then they don't need the credit. Dream Theater are very talented and knowledgable but that doesn't mean they can write a flowing song as simple as SOTS era At the Gates. Porcupine Tree is the most boring repetetive nonsense ever. you know what? Im done here. Go listen to your power metal until you pull your head out of your ass. Listen to and learn something about heavy music then we can talk. Im sick of you and your oh so cliche cookie cut personallity.
I at least respect some of the other bands on your list although I dislike most of them.

WTF!? Not only did you completely misquote me on most of what you said, but your insult towards me was totally uncalled for! Anyway, thanks for the laugh...I just really don't think it's worth responding to anything you said.
Nonetheless, SculptedCold, I said that Yngwie Malmsteen has excellent technical skills and that in terms of musicianship, there are few in any genre that can contend with him. But trust me, by no means am I a fan of old Yngwie, in fact I agree with you, it IS just senseless noise and the fact that he's one of the most egotistical, self-indulgent assholes doesn't help either. And you're probably right in saying that my tastes make me sort of bias towards death metal, but trust me, I've heard enough death metal to justify my opinion. It's not like I'm completely oblivious to the sub-genre....oh and as a disclaimer for myself, know that by no means do I mean any offense towards you or anyone on this board, I'm simply stating my opinion, which is something that I thought I could do without being judged as a human being, but it seems SADUDE proved me wrong. Oh well, I guess that's that.

Well your musical taste is just an extention of your personallity do all is fair. I was harsh but I've been in bands with these Malmsteen wankers and they do that shit so much(sweeps) they can't do anything else. Sometimes it feels good venting on a message board. Either way it is still a message board and rediculous to take that personally. If you did I can't help but laugh. Seriously though, you have to familiarize yourself with the genre itself before taking stabs at the bands who are helping it evolve into its next state. The bands that are pushing themselves and setting the bar for the rest to catch up to. Flaming on the net I suppose is just as pathetic as a person who takes their flaming seirously though. Either way I have no problem being labeled pathetic. hahaha I could be outside in the real world with a real life or something. Instead, I am online. [/being retard]

Okay, fair enough...I'm done.

Hey you were listening to still life when you wrote that. IF you can also enjoy the greatest "metal" release then your cool in my book.

DiscipleofPlato....just listen to some of Cryptopsy's work in "Whisper Supremacy" Their ability to work with time signatures and erratically switch between parts is nowhere short of incredible (Refer to "Flame to the Surface"). They have mastered the art of effectively using dead silent pauses (refer to "Emanciate"). They also show that they DO have a blatent sense of melody which they CHOOSE to use sporadically (Which is shown in "Cold Hate, Warm Blood") Not to mention that Flo Mournier's drumming is almost godlike.

Hmmm. Well, I broke Crytopsy out again and I'm still not too impressed. Maybe it's because they are so technical or maybe I just wasn't in the mood for that type of metal at the time. Who knows. I've held on to the CDs (Whisper Supremacy and None So Vile) for this long so I must have seen something in them. I'll give them another go when I'm in a death metal mood...

whats all this talk about cryptopsy not being technical?
you guys ever even hear their newer cd's?

None so Vile is simply one of the greatest death metal albums of all time, but if you're looking for more technicality then listen to whisper supremacy or and then you'll beg. and some of you really need to clean your ears and hear whats going on in the music
