D E A T H - Sound of Perseverance

your reviewers credibility is at stake here ... looks like we need a BTR vs. Arise showdown/review on the RC site.

Both albums get 10/10 in my book, but don't just look at scores. The score captures more than just what's etched into the vinyl because you absolutely have to take into account WHEN they were released. I have nostalgia baggage, heh.

Likewise, for 'newcomers' to the albums, I would want to see intricate reasoning in the criticism that these two albums would receive -- heavilly substantiated -- not just a brush off by someone who may have heard an MP3 sample once upon a time...that would be lame.

When did having an opinion connote ones opinion must be fact? So some prefer Arise, or vice versa. Who cares? Jesus this is like the goddamn GMD board.

Bah - you take this shit way too seriously. We're just messing around here.

Jesus this is like the goddamn GMD board.
Hardly, but yes, I do profoundly respect your opinion dare I say otherwise. :loco:

Perhaps I do take it too seriously, or perhaps I get tired of needless "I have a better opinion then you," type arguments.

I think everyone on this forum agrees that music is subjective. At least best I can tell.

perhaps we needed to insert more smilies in our posts ... but as long as me and Jk know we are just fucking around

Just two old schoolers shooting the breeze. We're like those old fuckers in the Muppet show.

hehehe /// I am the guy on the right.

oh yeah, Arise is still lame ... and Sound of Persevearance is still too wankery for it's own sake.

LEFT TO DIE .. best Death song EVAR !!!!!!

Under Siege= Great Song.

I give Arise a nine, but then I give Beneath The Remains the same grade.

Back on subject, DEATH. First, go read my review of Human. Second, Death has had more than one classic death metal masterpiece, fuck, they laid the blueprint. And as far as Symbolic, put that album into context. First album in quite some time, new lineup and their one and only album for new label Roadrunner. Those of you doggin' it need to go take another listen to "Perennial Skies," especially the solo at the end... such emotion. The main point is, the man took that band to new heights with each and every release. The Sound Of Perseverance was the sound of a man confronting himself and the world/life around him.

For sure, I am digging Death so much as of late, I am totally going to revisit Symbolic. If I work this backwards, I might even grow to like Leprosy one day. :D

Ok, I put on Beneath the Remains because I never understood the gay love for it, I always found it to be a weak transition from the quirky Scizophrenia to the masterpiece Arise. So far, my opinion hasn't changed. The music is pretty repetitive, and the drumming is especially weak. I guess I just don't get it. I grew up on thrash, too, but I'm gonna put this in the WTF? category with those people who somehow think Forbidden Evil is anywhere near as good as Twisted Into Form. Probably the same folks who prefer Eternal Nightmare to Oppressing the Masses and The Legacy to Practice What You Preach.

As for Death, Human is decent, ITP is godly, Symbolic is good, and TSoP is excellent. Never really listened to their older stuff enough to give a real opinion. Personally, I think Control Denied is the best stuff Chuck ever released, but Tim Aymar's vocals took some getting used to.
