D vs. D

Good! I was unsure whether Mike wrote the song or not. What a relief! :)
*laugh* Well... I think Dan is a really damn good song writer/singer/musician as well. They're both on the top of my list. And Sörskogen was a really cool project involving them both. I just wish they would have recorded more than that one track.

Deliverance!

I can't believe that so many people doesn't like it! It awesome! It's got everything: from heavy riffs, cool solos (often two per song - respect), well-performed lyrics & growling to those mellow parts you die when you hear. I like all the songs on Deliverance.

I'm a die-hard Opeth fan and I like Damnation as well. But it's a bit to mellow for me and for Opeth I think. But don't get me wrong it's a professional and extremely beautiful album. I sorry because the best song on Damnation - "To rid the disease" - I've recently learned, is directly taken from Dan Swanö. Ofcuze it's not the same song, but the chorus is very similar.

If you want to listen to Opeth at its best listen to Still Life, Blackwater, Deliverance and Ghost Reveries!

/period! :)

You forgot Morningrise - and that's a sin

Why prefer one over the other? Especially when comparing a soft...atmospheric and emotional (sure you were talking about the right "D"?)record over the progressive death metal record that contains similar qualities. Its a double album for a reason. And since when has Opeth's growls been cheesy? For a band so unique, so powerful, and always consistent I see they sure have alot of small criticisms for everything they do.

Fuck, Deliverance by a long-shot. I really don't see what people have against it, it's second behind MAYH in my opinion.

This is a hard question. Deliverance is heavy as hell, emotional, heartbreaking and angry all in one. I usually rate it higher than D2 but probably only because it is so hard-hitting. But actually, it took a long time to grow on me. Damnation floored me upon first listen. It really depends what mood I'm in, but I listened to D1 today and it was especially amazing.

Deliverance, and not because one's mostly metal and one's not. Without their softer moments I believe Opeth wouldn't be half the band they are and sometimes I'll enjoy those much more. But I just thought the songs on Damnation weren't too great. They blend together a bit, seems sort of bland compared to Benighted, Harvest, Madrigal, Paterns in the Ivy (both) and even the quieter parts of A Fair Judgement.
