DARKANE & SUIDAKRA CONFIRMED FOR CHICAGO POWERFEST 2008

Sweden's DARKANE & Germany's SUIDAKRA have just been confirmed for CHICAGO POWERFEST 2008. The 6th annual metal festival will take place on Friday/Saturday, May 2nd & 3rd, at The Pearl Room in Mokena, IL. There will also be an official Powerfest "kick-off" show on the Thursday night prior (May 1st), featuring ENSIFERUM, TURISAS, TYR, and ELUVEITIE, who will be making a stop along their PAGANFEST tour.

Also, both DARKANE & SUIDAKRA are still currently available for sponsorship as part of the Powerfest's Sponsor/VIP program...although, only a limited number of packages remain per band.

As previously announced, Powerfest promoters, CRJ Productions, have introduced an official fan sponsorship/VIP program this year that will give fans a higher level of participation in the fest and a chance to take advantage of some cool perks.

For more details regarding the sponsorship program or the fest itself, please visit www.ChicagoPowerfest.com or www.myspace.com/chicagopowerfest

Both bands are excellent additions. I have always wanted to see Suidakra and they will also help keep any folks in town that wanted to come just for the Paganfest. Darkane I have seen open for Fear Factory and they were amazing, but they have a differeent lead singer now, so I am interested to see how that pans out.

Do you know set times or the day that the announced bands will play on, yet?

Does anybody know if Suidakra will play with just Arkadius on guitar, or if they've got a replacement for Marcel yet?

I am willing to bet that they will find a replacement. Does anyone know if Suidakra has ever played in the US before?

EDIT: after checking Suidakra's website it looks like Powerfest has their debut US performance unless other dates are going to be announced.

Oh and btw, with just these two bands you can tell that there will be a different "style" of bands from last year. Hopefully the nights are not separated by genres like there were (in some way) last Powerfest. I want all those powermetalers to see the death metal bands live! Tee hee.

As long as the death bands arent like the ones from last year (ie Atheist and Martyr) I will be okay. I do greatly enjoy some death influenced bands but not strictly death bands.

Nothing wrong with that. I guess I should of expalined a bit, there are a lot of locals that'll go to the show but will bitch constantly about the so called "cookie monster" bands. Last year they had a choice to go Friday and not go Saturday but if the bands are mixed up both days then they can't do that this time around.

I agree that the bands should be mixed that would force people to buy tickets to both days as well as maybe give people to relax or chat during bands they dont enjoy.

Not only that but some people might like certain band at the fest because of XYZ reason that on any other circumstance they would of never bothered checking out. Last year I didn't care for Benedictum that much until I saw the live show. Very cool.

Nice. I kinda dropped off Darkane after their first album, but it's a good choice for the fest. Saw 'em years ago at the Milwaukee Metalfest, so it's interesting to see that they're still willing to give America a go after all this time.

Suidakra is an excellent choice, and a great tie-in with the Pagan Fest...they could actually be on that tour. I can't imagine there are a whole lot of bands left with that big of a catalog who are yet to make their US debut.

Now, this means that someone needs to tell me how the hell you're supposed to pronounce 'Suidakra'. Anyone?
