Death Metal song (album) needing engineer to mix…

Ok my mix is ready. Definitely not better than many of the awesome mixes already posted, but so far I´m fairly happy with it. one annoyance I do find is the guitars are a tad too dark, I might try to fix that some more later. I´ve heard many of the mixes and personally my favorite has to be somewhere bewteen coldthrn and Lasse, with some mild complaints in each, but overall both are the best to my ears, great job guys!

Edit: OK not " a tad" too dark, just "too dark" hahaha, I´ll fix that tomorrow

Not really feeling this mix at all, the snare just sounds bad and the overall mix is strange, snare is coming thru more than anything else.

Dammit. I really thought this would be the feel you were looking for, sorry. I am willing to try another mix cause I love the song and it´s fun to work with, so if you would be kind enough to point out some specific things you would like changed it would be appreciated

I do admit now on fresh ears the snare is too loud, but I personally like the sample. I´ll try to check some other samples see if it fits better with the mixes you´ve liked and your references.

The guitar tone is definitely dark, I´m gonna redo it a lot brighter, but I do like the low end on both the guitars and bass, I think the distorted bass meshes well with the guitars, and that´s a thing I noticed in your references, distorted messy bass underneath tight bassy guitars. Of course I can´t say I actually achieved that to the level of your mindblowing references, but at least that was my idea in doing the bass that way. So I would like to know if you like the bass/guitar mix or should I keep the bass undistorted and try it more clanky instead?

I´ll also try to fix toms and cymbals as I´m not satisfied with them.

Let me know anything else please!

Edit: BTW at least my test mix landed me a gig of remixing a friend´s Ep, he really liked the sound when I showed him my mix to check out and asked me to rework his own stuff, so yeah hahaha

Glad to hear your gettign some work out of this as well dude, keep me updated on any of the new work you have going on.

Feel free to try another mix if you like dude, I would love to hear anything your doing.

At this point my top mixes are (in to particular order):

Coldthrn's
Lasse Lammert's
Fragle's

I am still waiting on a few other people to post mixes that have not yet and as I said before I am in no rush.

Here's my quick shot. Had a hard time with those overheads and the DIs of the guitar where in a different tempo than the rest of the files (maybe my fault?). As you probably noticed, there's still a lot to do.

Simply upsample the 44.1khz tracks or downsample the 48khz tracks and mix away. The start points of all the WAVs should then line up exactly. Use the included MIDI and Cubase tempo tracks if you want to experiment or blend your own drum samples in.

Nice dude! Thick guitars, like it, vocals might be a bit low but overall this is sweet.

If you wouldn't mind posting, what did you do for the mixing?

Peter

Cool! Here's a version with vocals a little louder :

Ok, I said I would do this a couple of days ago and didn't so here it is :

For the drums, I kept all of the original tracks you provided and simply reinforced everything, including overheads except hihat. I used addictive drums in combination with drumkit from hell along with one or two extra samples.

For guitars, I played around with ampsims and impulses (I'm not in front of the session so I can't remember if I used Legion or TSE X30). For each guitar I blended 3 different impulses and applied a fair amount of EQ. No tubescreamer.

Bass was split into 2 seperate tracks : one was distorted and hipassed, the other was run through an impulse and compressed to hell with mids boosted as well.

Finally nothing special was done with vocals. Notched out a few ugly frequencies in the low mids and slapped on a reverb and a short delay.

That pretty much sums it up!
