This must be a joke. Death is still the best death metal band there is. It's the best metal band there ever was, imo.

joe satriani and alexi are about on par, both are just as boring.

Death wasn't the greatest metal band just because they influenced a lot of bands, they just were the greatest metal band because they were. chuck was a genius, the last few Death albums are easily some of the best albums ever made. he knew exactly how he wanted to sound without knowing a thing about theory, and he also basically started that style of singing back in the mid 80s. Death has been influencing bands since they began, not just currently.

i've never considered Death to be death metal haha... especially not from Human on up, thats when they got more progressive in my eyes. TSOP was almost a progressive metal album, only thing lacking was the prog metal singer, which they got with Control Denied. before that they were more thrash than anything, especially with Rick Rozz, that guy probably spent every day wishing he was kerry king

from human to sound of perserverence are probbably some of the most best songs I have ever heard, not just in metal but for all genre's. Chuck was purely a genious as stated above, and the people he got to play in the later years like Hoglan, Christy, Koelble, Murphy, etc. The bassist from Indepentent Thought Patterns was fucking killer. Although it is hard to hear some of those bass lines, they are some of the coolest basslines I have heard in death metal.

steve digiorgio was a tremendous bassist. when my last band opened for cannibal corpse, sadus, and incantation, we did a cover of The Philosopher and dedicated it to steve, and steve being in sadus of course, after we finished the song he came up to the stage and shook our singers hand, and after our set all of sadus came back stage, it was so badass.

Thats fucking cool, what was your band called?

Death are still my all time favourite band, with Symbolic being my favourite album. Chuck was a genius at metal composition. He always created original and different songs, and all of his solos sound unique.

I think it's a travesty Death aren’t widely considered one of the most important metal bands like Metallica or Slayer are.
