Death

My 2 favourite are Human and Symbolic. Symbolic has alot of melody to it, not overly aggressive (although fast paced), some really cool moments and Chucks most emotional playing. Human is pretty darn brutal (other end of the spectrum), has the immortal 'Suicide Machine' on it (well, immortal in that I love it....), if you are a guitar player/fan you will love the album, the riffs are killer.
The Sound Of Perserverance (sp?!) is good if you are after something a bit like Opeth, it has a jazz-type influence, the songs are very progressive (in that they go off on a tangent all the time).
If you want some out-and-out brutality, go for Leprosy or Scream Bloody Gore (Zombie Ritual.... :heh: )

... and don´t miss "Individual Thought Patterns"... It is a absolutely masterpiece, the only weak point on that is the production. Steve DiGiorgio playes some of the best bass-lines on this album I´ve ever heard... But you can´t find a bad Death-Album, they are high-standard outputs in theier own way and for their era...

Chuck R.I.P.

this is hard because chuck had a career so solid is easy to start at any point of it, even their first 3 cds are some of the best old death metal i heard and like better than stuff like sodom or celtic frost, but well i started with human then tsop then itp then symbolic then the old cds...lets just say i have never been not impressed by anything that chuck did.

When I get into a group that is new to me I always start at the beginning and "catch up" as fast as I can. Hearing things out of sequence takes away the natural progression of their music and denies you what the original fans heard as they waited for the next release.

SCREAM BLOODY GORE
LEPROSY
SPRITUAL HEALING
HUMAN
INDIVIDUAL THOUGHT PATTERNS
SYMBOLIC
THE SOUND OF PERSERVERANCE

The first and last albums sound like 2 different bands. But if you go in order, you see the progress...:spin:

i say to myself " let it go this guy will create a 4 page thread madnes " but i just cant. How the fuck is TSOP lower standart than those 3? give me a break ok they might be better for your personal taste but the chuck standart only grew with time and the next album was always better and more complex, get your biased stupid personal opinions to sound like that there is nothing wrong with that, but dont make it sound like everything else is crap and you can prove it technically. We are trying to recomend a newbie here is like you are saying o well get morning rise and still life everything else is crap

damnit Yourdeadgroom... I've always agreed on most everything with you... but I'm afraid I'm going to have to kill you now... I'm sorry... MAYH is AMAZING... hehehe... ok... so I won't kill you... no but that's coo... however.. I will agree at least that Still Life and Morningrise are masterpieces! :)

Oh hooray, you won't kill me :) :) :)

But MAYH is crap. It smells sooooooo bad, I actually have to keep the cd in another room. So do the others, except the 2 I mentioned.

I'll say this quietly so noone notices- I'm kidding really, they all rule. MAYH is actually my 2nd fav. Shhh, don't tell anyone.. ;)

hehe.. i know... i got that you were just illustrating a point... but I wanted to draw and out and make a fake fight out of it... MAYH and morningrise always switch between my fav... i love them both so much

The sound of perseverance. Individual Thought Patterns.

Symbolic is good too, but it has more of a 'classic' -metal influence. It is more similar to Control Denied.

Human is great too, not as technical or dazzling as TSOP, but still a good album.

If you want good semi-primative 'Death-Metal', go with spiritual healing or leprosy.
