Someone at the Power Zone asked about the best "debut albums" and said he had a hard time picking five. That's not my case as here's a list of debut albums I quite enjoyed, in the hard rock/heavy metal field. And I'm sure I forgot some good ones.

Some of those I would have trouble listing as debut albums. As much as I love Halford, it's not like he was a spring chicken when Resurrection came out. Same goes with Avantasia and King Diamond. I know technically yes, they are debuts but I would classify those albums on a completely different level than, say, the first Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath album. As far as my favorite though, I would have to go with Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus.

Favorite debut album of all time = METAL CHURCH - (1984) METAL CHURCH

What about your faves, from this list...

FIFTH ANGEL-s/t 1986
LEATERWOLF-s/t 1984
W.A.S.P.-s/t 1984
From your list, only these would make my list.

...or any other?
Your three, plus these 17, would make up my Top 20 debuts...

Alice in Chains - Facelift
Ark - Ark
Babylon A.D. - S/T
Badlands - S/T
Circus Maximus - 1st Chapter
Futures End - Memoirs of a Broken Man
Kingdom Come - S/T
Motley Crue - S/T
Pearl Jam - Ten
Prophet - Cycle of the Moon
Queensryche - The Warning
Riverside - Out of Myself
Shark Island - Law of the Order
Skid Row - S/T
Tesla - Mechanical Resonance
Tora Tora - Surprise Attack
Vai, Steve - Passion & Warfare
Warrior Soul - Last Decade, Dead Century

Some of those I would have trouble listing as debut albums.
This. I left out EPs, side projects, all-star projects, solo projects, etc.

As far as mainstream music, I've always said 'Appetite For Destruction' was the best debut album.
To come out on the first album and just kick people in the teeth like that was amazing.

I've always liked Boston's debut album also.

5?
Apes and Androids - Blood Moon
The Receiving End of Sirens - Between the Heart and the Synapse
Subterranean Masquerade - Suspended Animation Dreams
The Stiletto Formal - Fiesta, Fiesta, Fiesta, Fiesta
The River Empires - The River Empires (Epilogue)

I'm sure a lot of people would agree.

I hate to be picky, but there was Flexible & Flexible Leftovers before P&W.
Not discounting the greatness that IS P&W, but it wasn't a debut....

What constitutes a debut album for a solo instrumentalist seems a bit of a puzzle. Is Malmsteen's Rising Force a debut album? (If so, it is in my top five.) Or was his debut with Alkatrazz or Steeler?

With Vai, you could argue that his solo material was completely different from the genre where he made his name (Zappa). His work with FZ, Alkatrazz, Roth, and even Whitesnake predate Passion and Warfare, although it is true that P&W was his debut for most of his current fanbase.

(Someone listed Rainbow's 1975 album as a debut, which raises other somewhat related issues. Is "Stranger in us all" another debut album from Rainbow? Is "Perfect Strangers" a debut DP album? Or "Purpendicular"?)

Debut albums I like (full album, no EP):

BLOODBOUND-nosferatu 2006

ROB ROCK-rage of creation 2000
SAVATAGE-sirens 1983
TROUBLE-psalm 9 1984
W.A.S.P.-s/t 1984

Above are the ones I'd keep from your list.

AiC-facelift is indeed excellent and my fave of them.
No big QR fan, but The Warning had some fine tunes for sure.
The 1st Skid Row has some fine songs, but I really prefer Slave To The Grind.
The 1st Badlands was very good indeed.

Sword-Metalized
Rough Cutt-s/t
The Rods-s/t
Racer X-Street Lethal
Lethal-Programmed
Obsession-Scarred For Life
Shok Paris-Go For The Throat
TT Quick-Metal Of Honor
Lord Tracy-Deaf Gods Of Babylon

Damn, I completely forgot the Sword-Metalized disc, one of the best of the 80s. I also forgot Deaf Dealer-Keeper of the Flame...

The Obsession and Racer X are good too. Rough Cutt was cool.

So much of what's been posted goes back to the 80s, so possibly that's clouded my judgment. But right now my top five would be:

Yngwie Rising Force*
Silver Mountain Shakin' Brains
Satan Court in the Act
Queensryche The Warning
Loudness Birthday Eve

(What is the html code for y-umlaut?)

* Is this a debut? Hmmm. If not, replace with Queen I, or Engine.

Don't know if I could narrow it to 5 but some of my favorites would include

Boston - Boston (nothing could even touch this IMO)
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced.
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin 1
Lynyrd Skynyrd -pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd)
Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Oz
Metallica - Kill Em All
Metal Church - Metal Church
Van Halen - Van Halen
Iron Angel - Hellish Crossfire
Grave Digger - Heavy Metal Breakdown

No need for the Pain of Salvation hate, I listened to Entropia again the other day and it's still badass. If you like Pain of Salvation it is, at any rate.

Some other notable debuts for me would be:
Circus Maximus - The 1st Chapter
Ark - Ark (Too bad they didn't stay together. My personal favorite of Jorn's stuff)
Metallica - Kill 'em All (about the only album of theirs I still like)
Norther - Dreams of Endless War
Warmen - Unknown Soldier (I guess this might not count, depending on one's criteria)
Demon Hunter - Demon Hunter (if for no other reason than A Broken Upper Hand...that song makes me want to break stuff, it's so badass)
Dream Evil - Dragonslayer
Myrath - Hope
Riverside - Out of Myself
Scar Symmetry - Symmetric in Design
Serenity - Words Untold & Dreams Unlived
Sevendust - Sevendust
Solution .45 - For Aeon's Past (may not count depending on criteria)
Sybreed - Slave Design
Thought Chamber - Angular Perceptions
Andromeda - Extension of the Wish (though I really prefer the redo with their David Fremburg, that still counts, right?)
Bloodsimple - A Cruel World
Dynahead - Antigen
Cloakwheel - This Crooked Path You've Drawn
Jon Finn Group - Don't Look So Serious

A few more of those than the ones I noted may be DQ depending on how you look at it. Also some of those are the only albums. Either way, they're all awesome initial efforts.

Well, it was a self financed/sold/marketed release in 1984, post-Zappa, and his first SOLO cd. P&W was his first HUGE hit with the masses. I do get what you mean about instrumental releases. I'd probably consider Rising Force YJM's debut, but part of me wants to say "Steeler", but then that would make Vai's debut Tinseltown Rebellion......It's making my head hurt!!!

Because you asked....

Entropia was a kick ass album:devil:

BAAAAAAAAASTTTTAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRDDD!
 :saint:
(I do actually find Entropia & OHBtCL their most listenable stuff)

No problem with the pickiness. I had been under the impression that Flexible was an EP. Learn something new every day.

Leftovers was the EP, I think in it's original form it still had 8 songs on it...
As weird as those 2 releases are, they are desert island discs/records for me. What a great time to be a fan of that kind of stuff back then......sigh.....:erk:

It's all good :D

Gotta add a few:

Angra - Angels Cry
Annihilator - Alice in Hell
Darkwater - Calling The Earth To Witness
The Crystal Method - Vegas (oh wait, wrong genre, sorry...)
