Democrat wants to renew draft

haha yea, youre right about the cappucino/coffee point. its funny most americans think coffee is what they see at starbucks or dunkin donuts when it's nothing like it. im american as well, and thinking about living in italy because i have a woman there who i might marry. the same things hav e gone through my mind if i decided to live there....no 24/7 stores, the TV shows suck (no american sports) etc. basically everything that i would like to have doesnt exist there, but at the same time those things dont really matter in life so im sure id get over it. it's a beautiful country.

one thing you have to say though is that while you might hate war and be against the draft, italy has a mandatory military service for its citizens, doesnt it?

yours is an interesting story. ill pm you in a bit for more of it.

I'm against the war because I was in it and saw first hand the shit that happens over there. I'm against the draft because I don't want anyone to be forced to do anything they don't want to do. Italy USED to have mandatory service for 9 months, similar to many other countries, but they have since stopped and now it is an all-volunteer force.

Dude, don't worry about the stuff you miss here, especially TV shows because we have SKY, which is a digital satellite tv service and you get all the American shows and sports that you want, in Italian or English. Personally, I fucking hate the fact that Italy dubs the shows that they show on TV, although with SKY you get both languages if you want. They are one of the only countries who do so, and it shows because many of them don't speak a word of English, although that's starting to change dramatically with the new generations. I like watching movies in the original language, no matter what the language...if it's not my own, I'll watch subtitles as well. But if you're talking cinema movies, everywhere there are movie theaters with original language nights once a week, which show movies in original language. The theaters are just like the giant multi-plexes in the US...three floors, bar, pool hall, game room, etc. That's right...I said BAR. You can drink beer and watch movies if you want. Dude, they serve beer in McDonald's here.

You will sacrifice some things, but it's not NEARLY as much as you think, and what you'll get in return completely owns anything you may be missing.

I'm glad to see that someone liked italy

puoi parlare italiano bene? sto provando impararlo. dove vivi in italia, nord, sud...?

I bet a bunch of you feel retarded for voting Democratic now. Nimrods.

Though, I'm indifferent to the draft law.

you do realize that the man who tried to pass this legislation (Chuck Hagel) only did it to prove a point - that with the draft there would be no war in Iraq. He knows that this will never happen for two reasons, one - people dont want it and two - politicians dont want it either.

no it isnt. it's more efficient, ill give you that.....but germany is responsible for the worst atrocity in the past century so by default, italia wins. plus italia's football teams are better!

No fair pulling the Nazi card!
Germany's cool, but there are some things i don't like. Being charged 45€ for forgetting my train ticket at home is one of those things.

Uao, dio cane! Parli bene italiano!!!!!! Sei italiano o no?

Abito in Friuli, vicino a Udine e Pordenone. Anch'io studio italiano, ma non tanto adesso perche sono un insegnante di inglese. Devo continuare piu nel lezioni di italiano...ovviamente, :loco:.

Germany is better than Italy.

Germany is more efficient and more structured, which means it's a little more like the US and England...which is good. However, there comes a time when one must think outside the box, and in Germany it's not so good to do this. German people are the polar opposite of Italian people, for better and worse reasons. The better reasons are obvious: more organization, more structure. The worse reasons are (metalheads aside, because we're all the same, pretty much): German tourists are fucking rude assholes. If anything goes wrong, Germans flip the fuck out because everything must go according to plan, no deviation! Again, there are two sides to this coin. Structure is good if you like it, but their overall rigidity is too overwhelming sometimes. On the contrary, you may have more fun and be a little freer to do what you want in Italy, but there comes a time when some things NEED to be organized, and they're not. This is mainly present in southern Italy, whereas in the north where I live it is quite structured, so it's quite the happy medium. I can live with a carefree attitude like the Italians and still most things are organized well, sometimes even better than in Germany. It just depends on what culture you like. If you're an anal retentive asshole, you'll like Germany. If you're a piece of shit lazy bastard, you'll like Italy,.

Maybe I should have went to Italy:erk:

Don't get me wrong, I like it here in Germany, but some of the stuff here, like what Dead Winter mentioned, kinda sucks. For example, I like not having a strict schedule of shit to do. I can work things out at the last minute, or just improvise plans to still get a similar effect (travel, bills, school assignments, etc.) But, seeing as I'm an exchange student, and in my program my host family has the final word in everything, it doesn't always go well with them. I don't like school here that much either, cause this is more or less a year off for me (I need one credit in English bach home in the US to graduate so all I have to pass here is English) and recently, I'd much rather be working then going to school (but I can't for various reasons) Which made me think of this: If the German people are truly focused on efficiency, wouldn't it be more efficient for me to work instead of sitting in classes I don't understand and don't really need?

Sorry if it sounds like I'm bitching, but I just wanted to mention a bit about my experience. And, like Dead Winter said, no offense to the German posters on here. I really do like it here

i'm incappable of getting drafted
my mental disability money paperwork says that i am "not mentally competent enough to perform adequetely in the armed services"

ha ha ha

My loophole is the fact I'm dependent on antidepressants and can't step down quickly enough to function on their terms. They won't give you the meds, so the can't take you if you need them. :)

Nope. If I step down too quickly I get violent mood swings and can easily trigger panic attacks. I don't think they want me mowing down my squad in the middle of a full anxiety attack. I AM trying to step down, but it takes months.

in effetti a ventiquattro anni è difficile decidere se sposarsi oppure no, sei ancora giovane , io non ce la farei al posto tuo :erk: però se la ami sul serio potresti essere più felice di quanto lo sei adesso.

We're italianizing this thread
