Hey bcg1969, I see you mentioned Danzig and I hadn't really thought of them, but as I said metal aren't really sad to me, but "Let it be captured" is also a little bit sad and maybe a little sadder than "Going down to die" IMO, although that's a good song!

I can't believe no one has yet listed some of the all time classics in this department.

Candlemass - Solitude
Candlemass - Under the Oak
Candlemass - Samarithan

Judas Priest - Run of the Mill
Judas Priest - Epitaph

and the grandaddy of them all

Judas Priest - Here Come the Tears

Very morose, very depressing.

Well I wasn't going to mention The Cure but if people can mention Skid row and Chili Peppers then I can say the cure is WAY depressing...especially albums such as Faith, Disintigration, and Pornogrophy.

  • Solitude Aeturnus "Mirror of Sorrow"
  • Solitude Aeturnus "White Ship"
(a really bad song to listen to when you're down on life)
  • Amorphis "Elegy"
  • Anathema "Shroud of Frost"
  • Fear Factory "Invisible Wounds (Dark Bodies)"
(man this song gets me every time I hear it)
  • A Different Sun "Trails of Broken Dreams" :)
(the second most depressing song I ever wrote)
And who could forget... the all-time classic "I'm so horribly miserable" song... Metallica "Fade to Black".

Yea I'm gonna have to go with almost every song on "A Natural Disaster." Great fuckin album, but damn depressing. "Are you there?" Is, imo, one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time.

Xasthur - A Walk Beyond Utter Blackness
Sad Legend - Sigh on the Billow (In Blossom with Hate)
Dolorian - almost anything off When All the Laughter Has Gone
