Well.. what is the most depressing, sad, melancholic, and overall downer of a song you've all heard?

Personally mine isn't metal.

it's Piano Man by Billy Joel.

I'm expecting a lot of doom metal.

count to 6 and die by marylin manson. you may not like his music, but that song is just intense.

I'm gonna have to go with Katatonia's entire catalog, particularly Quiet World. Man, that song makes me wanna slit my wrists in a bathtub and drown myself in my own blood.

Suicide Note Pt 1 is pretty depressing though. Pt 2 is pretty psychotic.

Well...

There is an unofficial, "saddest song ever", I read an article about it recently, is called "Gloomy Sunday" by some Hungarian guy called Seress.

It was wrote in the 30's and is about the break up of a relationship, over the years many people have heard it and commited suicide as a result, even the singer of the song committed suicide.

It was banned in UK for a time for fear of mass suicides.

But scary shit, not metal of course, but an answer to your question.

You can read about it and other strange things at this link

But as for Metal I'd say.

Sentenced - Bitterness & Joy
Anathema - J'ai Fait Une Promesse

In some way I find ManOwaR - Courage slightly depressing, but the song has a mix of emotions, it's like sad, but looking forward.

Fear Factory - Timelessness
My Dying Bride - For My Fallen Angel/Sear Me
Opeth - To Rid The Disease
Anathema - Most of their stuff really lol

just various slow/quiet songs really because they give me time to think about things which usually ends up with me feeling down lol
