I agree with the last guy.

No really. Love the song. The only way it might not seem like a "real" Opeth song is the other members didn't have anything to do with it at all. But Mike writes most everything anyway, so that doesn't count.

did mike do everything? all the guitars?

I believe Mike recorded it over at Jonas Renske's place or something like that? Im pretty sure it was only mike doing everything.

The song may have the emotion of other Opeth tracks, but it definitely doesnt have the subtleties and layers and depth of other tracks. Its just boring. I can listen to it once and it sounds emotional, but theres a thousand bands who do that to me, Opeth appeal to me because theres enough to draw my attention, lots of subtle details to notice on each listen, different angles to listen to every song. Still Day and Patterns 2 are just single minded, very direct, very undeveloped. If the new album is similar i will most likely listen to it 3 or 4 times and says its awesome, and then never listen to it again.

Vocals are definitely more developed on this track though, hopefully should mean some interesting new things in future. I dont however like how strictly structured the vocals are becoming. i prefer vocalists to just sing the lyrics, rather than write 'vocal melodies' and then write 'lyrics' and then merge the two... the vocal melodies should be written primarily to show the feeling in the lyrics..

Amen.

Now I'm confused...

If Opeth didn't write 'Still Day Beneath the Sun' than who did? I thought that was Mikael singing! Is this an Opeth imitation band or something?

Whats the name of the band that REALLY played it?

what kinda title is "Still Day beneath the sun" anyways? Who came up with that title I ask?

And how come mike hasnt been elected the president yet?
