Does "anyone" like Reroute?

When conquering the world, one must start with a few faithful followers :) +professor chaos kind of laugh+

I love death metal, but...I feel kind of cheesy getting into the My Dying Bride/Cradle of Filth stuff, because, as serious as I take being heavy and pissed off and Slayerish and no compromise, I still never forget I'm me and dressing up in costumes and stuff is well, kind of faggy (not that gay is bad, just an expression).

For that reason to me, in terms of attitude, Slayer is still the heaviest thing out there because they don't need special tricks to prove to you they're serious, just no bullshit lyrics and amazing technique...as somewhere on God Hates Us All says, to paraphrase, "Hatred heals you should try it some time" and "give me one reason why I shouldn't rip your fucking face off"...

Magnifique...

i hate slayer to be honest. just lame tunes. i guess you gotta grow up with that. well, i didn't. i didn't grow up with maiden either, and that may well be the cause why it escapes me how any sane person can actually listen to these fucks.
but oh well, opinions, opinions.

And on Metallica again, I agree with the Napster thing, but the approach should of been different. Mp3 trading should be regulated.

I just can't shit on the guys, bashing James Hetfield is like...shitting on Hulk Hogan, the President, mom and apple pie, your longtime girlfriend, your best friend, and your chosen religion all at the same time...

Do I still turn to Metallica or expect them to rip my head off? Other than the usual concert I have to drive to St. Louis for every few years because Arkansas is a hell hole, no.

But they gave me shit I've loved since before I could read...and scared the shit out of an 8 year old (me) with the One video, especially the Jammin' Version.

Maybe it's personal loyalty...but...I can say Metallica doesn't make good music anymore, but I can't bash their personalities because I don't know what it's like going around as Niklas Swanlund and filming them every day and putting up with their personal issues and shit.

What I WILL fault them for is their shitty choice of opening acts and attempt to go "nu-metal"...I really didn't want Summer Sanitarium to become a moving festival like the Vans Warped Tour, Lollapalooza and Ozzfest, but it has.

Really, I mean, fuck Limp Bizkit.

Thanks for reading my Kerrang! column again.

A lot of the Slayer stuff is kind of silly in that it's shocking to be shocking, but some of their more political oriented songs about thinking for yourself and not following clergy for clergy's sake...well, it's important.

Maiden...is like EVH...I mean...just can't knock em. I've even considered doing a few X-Factor tunes.

But I swear, everytime someone even touches "The Angel and the Gambler"...Steve Harris, you're my favorite bassist, but I hate you for that fucking song!

Vulture's view on Maiden is interesting too, as so many of these Eurometal bands are basically taking their formula and heavying it up. It really is the basic structure for a lot of stuff.

I just never could get on the Marylin Manson or to an extent, NIN approach. The guy on stage is like a cartoon character, and not a real musician.

Then again, I've always seen metal as more of a craft than an art...I respect people more who practice every day and pull off really difficult licks than someone who is "innovative" (which in the 90's meant scratching your strings through a wah wah pedal)...

Our Gothenburg boys are fairly tight with a wah wah, I'd like to see these nu-metal folks get their wah wah's crammed up their asses, and see how original they are then.

I think Jesus liked it. But he likes everything.

He's into that "turn the other cheek" shit.
I say good for him, I mean, it'd be a shame if he had only
one cheek hurting, now wouldn't it ;)

Speaking of NIN, they got nothing on KMFDM :loco:

KMFDM are indeed most totally awesome. Nihil was pretty much my entry into metal through the industrial backdoor with Juke Joint Jezabel :D My brother owns all the albums, which I borrow on a regular basis...in fact...

What's the deal with the KMFDM/MDFMK? same band except one guy right?

Almost, but not really, it's one their many, many side projects
headed by Sascha K, the main force behind KMFDM, basicly it
was formed when KMFDM split up for a while.
It might as well be one guy tho, Sascha is like super-talent,
play many different instruments and also does the vocals, I think
he is the only guy who has been on all KMFDM related releases.

Does the music channel "The Box" still broadcast?

For those unfamiliar with it, I last saw The Box in the early 90's on satellite. Basically you call, order a video via credit card on touch tone phone for 2.95, and within the hour your chosen video plays.

Neat concept. Better than shitty MTV and it's attempt to bring back rock, MTV2. I wonder how that channel keeps making money when practically everyone hates it.

By the way, one KMFDM song I heard, I loved, but I forgot the name. Something about blood. Minor arpeggio at the beginning.

It's just repetitive and goes on way too long. A lot like Ministry. If a band is going to be industrial and highly rhythmic and only have 2 riffs per song, make it under 5 mins please.

Wow, Inflames626 has some serious ADD. Can't seem to stay within a topic. :D

I recall some big words like that on Skydancer...and as long as we're talking about stinkers of an album, we need to mention Haven, which if memory serves Niklas didn't do a damned thing on cept the art (if the liner credits for song writing is a guide to go by, which I don't think it is, but humor me)...for whatever reasons, Martin got his act together, and Damage Done is such a great record (again, "The Poison Well" and "I, Deception" should have been on the U.S. release, I don't believe in promoting some fans at the expense of others having to pay import fees).

You're talking like you know everything in the world. Get your fucking head out of your ass.

What's Fredrik Johansson doing now? And he wasn't doing the solos on Dimension Zero's little "Penetrations from the Lost World" demo, I think Jesper just mentioned that the same name was a coincidence. As far as IF "selling out", as long as Jesper is still cranking out quality old school metal in side projects, I'll be happy, although I'm disappointed that I haven't seen Bjorn do anything on the side, as talented as he is. I swear, he seems to play drums as loose as Tommy Lee...

I've heard this Fredrik Johansson is a musician for a Swedish rap band.

I like Niklas's art, but it kind of tends to be the same. It'd be nice to see him get over the collage thing he tends to like.

Let's see your artwork, pal.

Oh, and, IMO, Projector was the best record. The first time I heard it, especially "Freecard", the loud bass and minimal guitar thing reminded me of Tool so much it isn't even funny. If Tool were Swedish.

Adam Jones and Niklas Sundin collaboration? Hmmm.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but is the video for "Monochromatic Stains" taken from a 1919 German film called "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari"? I had a university class on Weimar Germany, and it seemed familiar, with the old Tool-ish kind of stop motion, silent film, jerky stuff. Not quite NIN's "Closer", but...

Merci for the read. I always have a lot to say.

Although I've never seen "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari", the style of Monochromatic Stains video has German Expressionistic feel to it; that's what the director of the video wanted, so it may have things in common with the movie you're talking about.

Well, you have to tolerate this song for 12 seconds over the 5min,
it's quite a strech.
Btw, there is at least one person in the current KMFDM lineup that
used to play in Ministry.

Blood Evil-Mix

Evil

What there is to be broken
Is first stretched out
What there is to be weakened
Is first made strong

What will make us strong (?)
Is first pissed out
What will be thrown over
Is first raised up

Open your senses
In a sexual union
There's a face behind the curtain
Be a help and not a burden

Try to wash out blood with blood
(Speak no evil)

You're not doin'
You're not goin'
You're not knowin'
You don't have nothin'

Open your senses
In a sexual union
There's a face behind the curtain
Be a help and not a burden

Try to wash out blood with blood
(Speak no evil)

Evil

(German speech)

The high and strong will never surrender

Put no head higher than your own
(Speak no evil)

Evil

I'm not gonna bother commenting on the merits of KMFDM, since
you have admited liking COF, Dummy Burger, Metallica's Load and
Slayer, you obviously have no taste in music what-so-ever.

Since we're off-topic: I think everyone should see this movie. I've seen it several times (I have the DVD) and it's amazing.

Inflames626 is quite amusing in ways. He/she should listen to some David Gray, Down, Wide Mouth Mason, and Darkthrone too. To have more diverse musical taste. Stop listening to COF and new Slothtallica! :p

BTW: I used to like Slayer's music but don't anymore.
