Does your mood influence what you listen to?

The music affects your mood? With me it's usually the other way around; my mood effects my music selection. But I guess sometimes, the music does effect my mood a little. Good catchy death metal like Arghoslent somtimes makes me feel more energetic and sometimes a little bit better. I wish listening to "happy" metal would make me feel happy, but it doesn't.

In the car, my mood usually affects my selection...I really need to turn shuffle off and start listening to whole albums. In my room, I have shuffle on as I'm keen to see how different music affects my mood.

I remember a couple weeks ago, when I got dumped by the last girl I dated, I was just listening to the most depressing music. I was hooked on Mourning Beloveth, especially their song Narcissistic Funeral (a song about suicide). I've been depressed as hell lately, so it's been mostly extreme doom and atmospheric black metal for me, with some death metal thrown in when I feel angry or want to get energized. But I've been feeling more sad than angry lately. When I work out, I always listen to death metal, because it gets me pumped up.

Music is life and life is music. All music I listen too reflects my mood at the time. When Im angry i throw on Nightrage, when I feel empowered I listen to Amon Amarth when I feel happy I listen to power metal and when I want soul I put on something that rips at my heart I.E. Pisschrist by Fear Factory , Nuclear Fire by Primal Fear , or Detox by SYL. Im psychotic I know.

Not always. Usually, I listen to certain albums for nolstalgic reasons.

Has anyone ever actually cried when listening to a particular song? I'm confident enough in my masculinity to admit that I have. Sometimes it really hits home when you're depressed as hell, and then listen to a depressing song dealing with depression/suicide/lonelyness, etc.

i find some music is good for some certain moods, but usually mood doesn't guide what i put on.
for example opeth is great "cozy home" music, some folk i have is great music to doze off to, etc

I cry on occasion while listening to music. Mainly if it's depressing or reminds me of a certain event. I remember when I was 12 years old and got the Titanic soundtrack. I sobbed every time I listened to it. I'm pretty sure Nokturnal Mortum has made me cry, though I can't remember the last time I did and what song it was.

I do the same,i cry easily, while listening to a certain song, sometimes i react emotional on the lyrics, because they come close to a certain event that happend during my live, sometimes an intrumental song can make me cry too.
Not always because i feel sad, happy, angry or depressed, but just cause of the beauty of that particular song.
I cryed twice two weeks ago at the gig of Arcturus, just cause it meant so much to me to see that band playing live, and for some nostalgic reasons...

Yes--- I started to cry the first time I saw Danzig live a couple years ago just because it meant so much to me. I had to quickly stop myself... before anyone saw how "uncool" I was.

@Susperia: There is nothing "uncool" about crying when your get touched by a certain band playing a particular song,it just shows that you get touched deep into your soul by the music,i had the same thing when i went to see Opeth last month, they played at least 3 of my favorite songs, and you know what,i wasn't the only one crying,so if you ever have that feeling again, just let yourself go ok :)

Yes, I listen Death Metal when someone has upset me and I let the power of the music displace all the unpleasant feelings I have in my body.

I listen to German Death Metal when I want to face my fears, as that genre of music will frighten even the strongest of people.

I listen to Black Metal when i'm alone and I want the atmosphere to transform me into another kingdom.

^ Just a thought ok, when you feel really angry, sad, lonely or whatever the mood your goiing thru at that time, you should try the opposite,so instead of putting Death Metal while your feeling angry just put on some relaxing Doom,Black,Ambient or whatever you like, it might help you to get rid of that mood of feeling your goiing thru at that particular moment,it works for me sometimes..

I've tried that but i'm far too anxious to enjoy it, I need something agressive to take the frustrations out of me.

^ I guess it's an important thing you listen to the music that fits you and the mood your in,as i said it works for me sometimes,so if what you say helps you to get rid of your anger and frustrations, then just go ahead, what do you play when your feeling somewhat happy??
