DR. X has been named for Mindcrime II

On their last album I was suckered into buying it from the "we are working with Chris DeGarmo" hype. Now they resorting to similar tactics to get me to buy this new album. Sorry, it's not going to work this time.

Tate's comments over the past few years have really soured me on this band. I used to be the biggest Queensryche fan too, heck I even enjoyed Hear in the Now Frontier when it came out. Oh, and you have to join the fan club to get on their forum, gimme a break.

Will Ronnie get to take (bang) Pamela Moore up on the altar (like a sacrifice) during the concerts? :loco:

Pretty shrewd marketing/PR move by QR to get a well known vox to pump up the hype. I think Jon Oliva's manic side would have made a better choice, or even Morgana Lefay's frontman (Charles Rykonen). I hope RJD gets more than a few lines here and there.

I hear ya. Let's just say that I won't be buying this one blind.

Hmmm...I didn't see that one coming!

Judging by the preview QR gave of the music on this last tour, the sound will be in the vein of the last three or four albums. I'm thinking, and this is just a guess, that they'll be some keys on it though, which will make the music more interesting IMO. All in all, we'll be getting a thick, heavy sound, which is fine, if done correctly.

I'll buy it, no matter what! I have up to this point, no matter how much they've pissed me off in recent years.

I second that Jon Oliva comment...he would make the perfect Evil Dr. X...although I must say RJD is a better choice than Rob Halford as his voice has the potential to counter Tate's voice and offer more contridiction. We will have to wait and see how the use of the Godfather of Heavy's voice on the new album.

Definitely Oliva would have been the ultimate choice. He could use the same sneaky little voice he used on Beethoven's Last Night. But Dio is nothing to sneeze at! Sad thing is I am actually falling for all this hype, which is something I almost never do. I haven't been a Ryche fan since Empire (was a rabid fan before that) and I certainly didn't like the direction they went in the 90s. But this one has me intrigued. It doesn't help that I've recently re-discovered how great Mindcrime I is and can't keep the damn thing out of my cd player.

Awesome post!

Fuck Ryche! I love Dio to death, but I ain't believing Tate's never-ending promises anymore. They died after Promised Land for me!

I was also a HUGE Queensryche fan! I still think from beginning to end Operatiom Mindcrime is the greatest album ever made! When Empire came out I thought they could do no wrong. And then ... I don't know what happened. First they lost their ability to write good, melodic, catchy rock-n-roll songs with great sing along choruses. Then they lost DeGarmo and that trademark guitar pitch that drove so much of their music. It seemed like they just peaked with Empire, and then they lost it.

Even with one of my biggest heroes, Ronnie James Dio added to this project, I still have my doubts if QR can pull this off.

I have to weigh in with the popular opinion here. I think they "sold out" a bit as well. Their early stuff was awesome, Yippee and I were at the Madison, WI show where they taped the band portions of the Livecrime video.

RJD: Geoff, I think Mindcrime II will only be a "so-so" album...
GT: That's funny, Ronnie---the fans are already saying that.
RJD: Just remember, if it sucks, take my name out of the credits.
