DR. X has been named for Mindcrime II

You have "doubts"? What sort of "doubts" are we talking about? I mean, I have doubts too. However, I "doubt" that it will match the original in much the same way I doubt I'd enjoy being sodomized in prison.

Are real sure on the sodomy statement? I mean... you just may not have found the right lover...or prison

"Tribe", in and of itself, isn't a horrible disc. However, compared to their body of work, it's shit. Why they don't bring in a guitar player who can write songs is beyond me.

Zod

Easy...Tate and the others don't want any new blood that might actually challenge them to put more effort into the writing...

On their last album I was suckered into buying it from the "we are working with Chris DeGarmo" hype. Now they resorting to similar tactics to get me to buy this new album. Sorry, it's not going to work this time.

Tate's comments over the past few years have really soured me on this band. I used to be the biggest Queensryche fan too, heck I even enjoyed Hear in the Now Frontier when it came out. Oh, and you have to join the fan club to get on their forum, gimme a break.

Queensryche is a hit and miss band. They still put out some good music occasionally, but they're basically has beens. This new album is an attempt to resurrect them. Time will tell if it works, but I doubt it. I think Geoff Tate should knock off the political bull shit and just stick to writing music. He's a talented guy.

You should see how the die hard fans over at QR.com are reacting to this thread, getting their panties all up in a bunch, you people are really pissing them off. According to them, none of y'all know what you're talking about. :tickled:

I've known people who have memberships to their fan club over the years. If you're a die hard fan I guess it's worth it, you get a package with some goodies and discount tickets to concerts, but the people there on the board take things too far. They think that QR are god, and spend much of their time there. But basically what I've been told is if you kiss Susan Tate's ass enough ( she's the control freak who runs the fan club ) and never say anything negative about the band you get meet and greet passes for their concerts. :Smug:

Oh cool ... the fan club is reading this. Well I did the try before you buy method, and O:M 2 comes up short for me in several areas. I will say it's their best since PL, but that's not saying much. If the band knew how to write a good chorus, and add some interesting hooks here and there I might have given the disc the ol' thumbs up. Instead it gets the thumbs down because it doesn't contain a lot of memorable songs. I think Geoff sounded okay, and the band puts on a decent performance. The energy level is okay for the most part, but in the end it's an up and down effort, that just doesn't really work for me. I'm sure the sheepies will eat this one up, but basically for me it paled in comparison to everything else I've been listening to of late. Scar Symmetry, Vanden Plas, Rage, Red Circuit, Mystic Prophecy, and Amorphis all have better releases either out now or soon to follow. Even the latest Evergrey is better than O:M II ... and it's a clinker.

Or you can tell Susan Tate to fuck off and wait a few years and still get meet and greet passes. :D The freaks over on the official message board, unless things have changed significantly over the past several years, get their panties in a wad anytime someone doesn't lick Geoff Tate's asshole. It's been that way since at least '99 that I know of.

I downloaded this last night and have my fiance at home burning it to a disk for me today, so we should be hearing it tonight. If it has even 2 or 3 decent songs, like I've been hearing it does, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Mag, I think you were dead on with your hit and miss and has-been comments.

I'll reserve my opinion until I hear the album, but I'm in no hurry. Their last couple of albums were disappointments, except that live one, which was essentially a greatest hits album, and had a lot of their old material on it . If this album flops I wonder if they will throw in the towel ?

I had to lol when I read your responses about the fan club. I have a couple of friends who are members there. They just lurk on the board to get updates and to get good prices on tickets mainly, they have been long time fans, but they shake their heads at the way some of the people act over there. I guess that happens on a lot of bands boards. Anyway, I'm sure they will be bitching up a storm about our conversation within a day or so.

Why doesn't Tate just kiss DeGarmo's ass and get him back. QR is shit without DeGarmo.

Can I have an "A-Men"???????????????? What happened between those two?? Chris wrote "Empire" and left. WTF have they done since then?? Tate, who is arguably the best rock singer ever, couldn't carry QR. That says A LOT about DeGarmo.

BTW, in the Mindcrime video, did anyone else think Chris D looked a lot like Criss Oliva (RIP) in that hat??

Peace,
Chris (GREAT name!!!!) :headbang:

DeGarmo left after Hear In The Now Frontier, not after Empire. And he wrote a lot of the material on Hear In The Now Frontier too. Then he even came back to write some of the material on Tribe as well. Even so, Tate kissing DeGarmo's ass, even if that would get him to rejoin the band, is hardly going to achieve the result you seem to want... the Chris DeGarmo of 1987 back in the band. Clearly DeGarmo is in a much different place musically now, and even if he returned to the band now, it wouldn't make you suddenly think you're hearing the band circa (insert your favorite Queensryche album here).

I'm suprised you aren't digging it, Bear. I kind of thought you would find a way to like it seeing that you are still a pretty big Ryche supporter. What killed it for you?

Britt

I'll get back to you Britt. I need to digest it still. After a few listens, its just not grabbing me.

i think tate sounds terrible. the album is not focused. the songs go no where then all of a sudden there is a part that sounds cool but usually surrounded by 2 miniutes of shit. though i will say it may be better then the new evergrey which is horrid.
