RJD: Geoff, I think Mindcrime II will only be a "so-so" album...
GT: That's funny, Ronnie---the fans are already saying that.
RJD: Just remember, if it sucks, take my name out of the credits.

thats cold....

"Mindcrime II" will suck more ass than an ass-sucking ass sucker. That said, I can understand why they've chosen to record this now. Apparently, they had a shred of integrity left and they wanted to eliminate it. The chances of this CD being a worthy sucessor to the original are only slightly less than Metallica's next disc being twice as Metal as "Ride the Lightning".

PROMISED LAND is their masterpiece to me.

No DeGarmo and my interest is next to nil.

Chris DeGarmo is listed in the thank you's in Dredg's CATCH WITOUT ARMS ;)

Kyle

Amen, Brother!

Promissed land is certainly among my top 10 metal albuns of all time.. And the new Dredg is pretty good too =P

I'd actually rank it as my 6th favorite QR CD. That said, I can see why some people think it's their best work.

I'd be more inclined to agree with this statement had Chris not recorded the steaming pile of crap that is "Hear in the Now Fronteir".

I'll go with the following (in order):

Operation: Mindcrime
The Warning
Rage For Order
Empire
Promised Land
S/T EP (though the inclusion of "The Prophecy" as a bonus track raises the bar on this mini-album even higher)

The Rest

Agreed. Aside from "Sign of the Times", I don't remember ANYTHING about that album. People put down Promised Land (not that you were), but it's LIGHTYEARS ahead of HitNF.

Really? Had they done this within 5 years of the first disc, than yes. But now? No.

Sure. Dio's pipes are as strong as ever and I almost look at the "signing" of him to be Dr. X as giving the new album an outside veteran presence, one who still creates music that actually appeals to the underground - well, at least moreso than anything Q-ryche's been dishing out lately.

Certainly doesn't mean the album will have replay value, but it's at least more intriguing now than it was before. For me anyway.

I'm firmly in the "let me hear it first before I buy it" category, too. QR has disappointed me way too much.

I think I began souring on them when I saw Geoff Tate on some Earth Day TV 'special' years ago, proselytizing against the evils of the Big Dairy Industry and how unsafe it was to drink milk.....while he was chain-smoking. :erk:

the new tune they played live opening for Priest was pretty damn good, very fast and in the vein of pre-Mindcrime material. My hopes remain high, but that's all they are.. hopes. I haven't liked ANYTHING they've done since Mindcrime and a few songs off Empire.

you took the words right out of my mouth Creeps.

When I saw them open for Priest here in ATL, I wasn't sure what to expect. And I definitely had my doubts about their sincerity to their original (80's) fanbase.

but damn! they put on a helluva show and played so many of my old faves. They even did NM156! it was great!!! I think they may have realized going on that tour that if they played too much of the latter years material, they'd likely have gotten boo'd right off the stage by the Priest fans. But they did an amazing job. They even impressed my son, The.Lost.Hatter - who now wants to go back and get all their old material for himself.

And that song from OMII they played on the tour, "I'm American"... sounded more like the Queensryche I cut my teeth on in the mid 80's than anything they've done since Empire.

:kickass:

I'll order Operation Mindcrime II when it's released. I ain't skeered.

Saw QR on the latest tour in Knoxville...which had them doing OM in it's entirety with actors. I was kinda sceptical going in, but they put my doubts to rest from the very start. They rocked my ass off! The crowd was definitely into it all night. Tate hit pretty much all the high stuff...even on Take Hold of the Flame...which I thought he wouldn't be able to do. At end of show, there was a preview vid of "Hostage" which will be on OM II. It seemed to rock hard & l liked it. The song definitely had a "back to what got them there" feel to it. I'm hoping the rest of the release will be just as good. And, adding RJD will make it interesting. RJD on tour with them to present this new material....hmmm...the possibilities...

Sorry, Greg, I have to totally disagree with you on that. The odds of OM II being better than OM are actually ever-so-slightly better than those of Metallica's next disc being twice as metal as RTL, based on the overall extreme metalness of RTL and the amount of time elapsed since each band has starting sucking hind tit (i.e., 14 years for Metallica and 'only' 8 for Queensrÿche).

I'm afraid I completely lost faith in this band after Tribe. That said, I still like their live show and still listen to the old stuff on a regular basis and don't really give nuch of a damn what jeffy's views/opinions are.

As for having to be a FC member to join the forum... um, sorry. :) I think there are one or two of us here who were partially responsible for that. What can I say, the band doesn't take criticism very well at all. :loco:

friend of mine suggested that Dr. X suits Warrel Dane quite a bit, and we were looking forward to such a collaboration.

Meanwhile, I stand by my opinion that their only shitty albums were Q2K and maybe Empire. Those who denigrate both 90s albums and Tribe were probably too busy coking it up to notice how they all fit in the larger scheme of things.
HitNF IS flawed, but it doesw contain some gems: Voice Inside, You, Saved, Some People Fly, Reach, Hit the Black, and spOOL. ESPECIALLY spOOL. That track is almost genius.

Just so we're clear, I was only trying to calculate the odds of it being a worth sucessor. The odds of it being better can't be calculated.

I agree with you about spool, but Empire is a friggin' masterpiece compared to Tribe, Q2k, or HITNF. The last good disc they made was Promised Land, and then the rapid decent began. Pardon me now while I go "coke" it up.
