DR. X has been named for Mindcrime II

IMO i guess i'm saying "cool, Dio.." but then, is this becoming another Ayreon type thing? Let's invite 10 guests to make it a spectacular bash, but then it's not Queensryche anymore.

Glad to see some "Promised Land" fans here since many hate it; my only complaint about that album was its brevity after it took so long for them to follow up "Empire."

As for the rest of their '90's input, I personally did not care for it although I always felt that if that was the direction they wanted to go in, so be it. That aside, it didn't mean that I had to like it :D But "Operation Mindcrime II" raises all kinds of red flags with me. If they kept on recording albums like "Tribe" and were happy about it - fine. But making a sequel to OM just feels like a cynical bid to win back their old fans.

I agree with you about spool, but Empire is a friggin' masterpiece compared to Tribe, Q2k, or HITNF. The last good disc they made was Promised Land, and then the rapid decent began. Pardon me now while I go "coke" it up.

Yeah, and all these years I've been telling people that I was drug free...never used. Seeing, though, as I think Promised Land is a great album, well I guess I was wrong. I think I need to check into rehab.

Actually, the only thing they're bidding to win back is their old fan's record buying dollars. When they disgrace the "Mindcrime" name with this forthcoming peice of shit, it'll only put more distance between them and their old fans.

Well...yeah.

With their tours over the past few years, they proved one thing - they can play the old stuff pretty good still.....

So it makes sense that, gee, we can't get a decent totally brand new album together everyone likes.... (and boy have we tribed.... I mean TRIED) so if we play the old tunes good in concert still, hey - lets do a sequel to an old album........

And as for the DeGarmo argument, I am of the mind (with many many others) that alot of the spark of Ryche left with DeGarmo. Everyone immediately snaps to the response about Hear/Now/Frontier..... well didn't it occur to anyone that the reason the guy might have left the band (or even considered it after the history and success they had) was because his musical tastes and the kind of music he wanted to make had changed since they first started the band? (Kevin Moore? etc...)
His viewpoints and direction were obviously changing at that point - they did HITNF.... it didn't gel with the fans.... and DeGarmo left......

That album and his act of leaving though can't do anything undercut how integral he was to what made the albums previous to that special. And the followup CDs are a testament to that, as the main thing that made the band so appealing seemed to have disapeared....

It's a little disturbing that Dio actually looks better than Tate.

Well Ronnie is not the most handsome guy in the world, but block-head Tate once made statements to the like of he has outgrown the "chunka chunka" metal stuff. Ronnie never made a statement like that. I don't feel like one can become "more mature" than metal. I think the opposite is true. As you grow older, metal will eventually bypass you in a form that is more demanding than you can handle.

Having said all of that, I am very interested in hyearing the new Queensryche.

I agree with you about 95% however.... I haven't heard the release yet. Drink a beer and get happy my brother Zod.

I'm betting that most of y'all have already seen it, but I didn't see it posted here... So, here's the cover "art" for OM2...

I disagree with the alienation of their fanbase. I've been to some recent shows...and after 3 straight crappy ass releases...people still show up to hear the old material. The Knoxville, TN show was packed & people were at the box office trying to get tickets. While I have doubts that OM II will match the original...I have a feeling after hearing the preview at that show...QR's fanbase will probably be just as big and grow some.

Saw QR on the latest tour in Knoxville...which had them doing OM in it's entirety with actors. I was kinda sceptical going in, but they put my doubts to rest from the very start. They rocked my ass off! The crowd was definitely into it all night. Tate hit pretty much all the high stuff...even on Take Hold of the Flame...which I thought he wouldn't be able to do. At end of show, there was a preview vid of "Hostage" which will be on OM II. It seemed to rock hard & l liked it. The song definitely had a "back to what got them there" feel to it. I'm hoping the rest of the release will be just as good. And, adding RJD will make it interesting. RJD on tour with them to present this new material....hmmm...the possibilities...

Ascension, I was at that same show at the Tennessee Theater in Knoxville. First off, the Tennessee Theater is a stellar concert venue! Secondly, I agree the show was great. As for the preview of the song, I wasn't so impressed. It pretty much sounded to me like Tribe, but with some piano added. Hopefully, I'm wrong, but I'm looking for it to be in the vein of Tribe and Q2K. :erk:

Besides being completely unimpressed by HOSTAGE, when I saw them recently open for PRIEST, they played that one song off TRIBE (Desert Dance?) with the 'Keep reachin... keep reachin'....' part.......

Good god that was an annoying tune.........:yuk:

They obviously still have fans. I didn't say they didn't. However, if you don't think their last few releases have alienated some of their long time fans, drop by the QR newsgroup sometime.

Yeah... some people. Not as many as use to, which was the point I was making.

You have "doubts"? What sort of "doubts" are we talking about? I mean, I have doubts too. However, I "doubt" that it will match the original in much the same way I doubt I'd enjoy being sodomized in prison.

Grow? This is an explanation I need to hear more of.

Why doesn't Tate just kiss DeGarmo's ass and get him back. QR is shit without DeGarmo.

Can I have an "A-Men"???????????????? What happened between those two?? Chris wrote "Empire" and left. WTF have they done since then?? Tate, who is arguably the best rock singer ever, couldn't carry QR. That says A LOT about DeGarmo.

BTW, in the Mindcrime video, did anyone else think Chris D looked a lot like Criss Oliva (RIP) in that hat??

Peace,
Chris (GREAT name!!!!) :headbang:
