Actually I can think of quite a number of songs that use the major key sound to provide a harsh contrast with the lyrics and make the theme even more melancholy than it would have been otherwise.

& Tubbs, if it's "mode" you meant, then that is related to keys, but not related to mood or feel or tone, which are subjective qualities associated with the message or overall point of the piece. They aren't related. I don't care if you or anyone else thinks I'm cool. I have a feeling a lot of people hate me, but I'm not going to stroke any of your E-gos when I think you're wrong. I'm blatantly honest, and some people have come to realize this.
