I think the word 'elite', especially in the context of the ProgPower audience, can be interpreted in different ways. I tend to think of the word exclusive or even privileged when thinking about this festival. Being involved as a fan, performer and crew member from the beginning has given me more opportunity and amazing experiences than I can even count. Its more than just a concert for most of the attendees. In fact, there was a time when almost everyone knew everyone else.
The atmosphere that Glenn has built for each and every person that attends each year is a feeling of brotherhood. A feeling of unique comeraderie that otherwise would not exist in this cold industry. Hell, when people are willing to attend this event and spend their hard earned cash, sometimes missing important events in their own lives even when they don't care for many (or any) bands on the roster is an incredible gesture to this community and really says a lot about what Glenn has been able to accomplish. As he has said many times over, this is a business first and foremost but I can tell you that he truly LOVES doing this for everyone that loves this type of music, not just himself.
With this festival he has influenced and sparked many a band and has literally lit a fire under the prog/power community. The amount of crap he has had to deal with on a daily basis just to continue to put forth his best, is unmeasurable and whatever decisions he has to make in order to keep it going is fine by me, and from what I can tell is fine by the majority of his audience as well.
Glenn deserves any and all positive things that could come from putting on such an incredible festival, and that includes profit. I understand the issues brought up in this thread and some are legitimate issues but when there are very few people willing to go through as much as Glenn has gone through for for a first class festival like PP, I think the least we can do is allow him to do what he feels is best for everyone. I also think its pretty gracious of him to even entertain the type of feedback he gets, most promoters wouldn't give a rats ass. Glenn clearly does, especially after reading this thread.
Cheers Glenn!
