Well I'm not sure if I'm using the right term here, but essentially what I am looking for is some doom along the lines of Candlemass. I've had very little exposure to doom in general, but something in that style would be preferable.

Yeah, I've wanted to get into more doom for a while now, but I just haven't really "gotten around to it" until now.

I think Classic Doom is a more fitting genre label. That is, doom that is not also death metal, and uses clean "classic metal" vocals. It is often epic by nature.

Paradise Lost and My Dying bride are more in the death/doom genre.

Solitude Aeturnus for sure. And that may keep you busy for a while.

Cathedral, but I haven't; heard much, and I think it leans toward stoner and away from epic, but I could be wrong.

Veni Domine would also fit the bill.

There is another band that totally fits, but I can't remember the name. Big name band, but it escapes me.

EDIT: ok, I think I was thinking of Saint Vitus. Found them in another doom thread on this page.

Scald
Solstice
Mythological Cold Towers
Cirith Ungol
While Heaven Wept
Isole

Not really doom, but I guess you'd like Twisted Tower Dire and The Lord Weird Slough Feg too.

Thanks for the recs guys, I appreciate it. Any tips on where I could download some of this stuff from, though? I fully intend to buy CD's, of course, but I like to atleast listen to a few songs before I go spending money on something that I'm not even sure I'll enjoy.

Myspace is your friend. Do listen to Solitude Aeternus, Doomsword, and Solstice especially. You should find their myspaces via Metal-Archives.

Scald (Russia) is the most epic stuff ever. But I have to agree with Nec's mention of Doomsword

I like Warning. Does that fit this category?

So I had a listen to this "Doomsword" today. Generally I only enjoy death/doom... but I'm quite liking this. I've listened to Let Battle Commence, and if MA is anything to go by I won't be disappointed by whatever I choose next. Will probably check out the self titled.

Will be sure to investigate all of this so called "epic doom" more in the future. :D
