Essential Iphone apps

Fuck yes.

15 bucks

I have looked into just about every one of these things, but decided I didn't need them. Yes, they look cool on the surface, but do you really need to create entire songs on the go? If you do, then there are a few options and this is one of them. However, there is nothing that gets even close to great sounds. iGOG is pretty good, as it is based around how hard to hit the screen (just like dynamic tracking in Drumagog) and you can load MIDI files into it. As a guitar player, this works great, because I also use a Vox Headphone amp (those little ones that have an AUX in, i think they are called the AmPlug) so then I can put on a groove/beat and then work on riffs with decent guitar sound all in my headphones

I forgot the other awesome program for this, which is Octopod. Look up Octopod also. Octopod comes with built in drum grooves of all types at different BPMs, so for working out riffs it is great. I also built a cable that goes from my Vox headphone amp to the MIC in of the iPhone, so that I can also record quick ideas on the fly so I don't forget them.

I don't do full production on my iphone, it is just a waste of time, but it is an invaluable tool for on the road or away from home work. Ever since I got all these tools down, I have been writing enough material for 3 bands, so I decided to start a sideproject.

I use my iPhone for production work on the go. I use iGOG (from makers of Drumagog) to record MIDI (simple drum patterns I can export). I also use PowerBeatFree (non-MIDI) to do drum programming on the go. So when I get home, I know where everything needs to be, and I can bang it out faster with EZDrummer. I use Guitarist Ref Pro for guitar scales etc. AudioSigGen is also great because it will spit out whatever freqency you want to so you can use it to tune rooms/rigs, or just learn or have a reference for an exact frequency.

no fucking way

I'm sure there's a RTA app that's meant to be very good for ringing out monitors if you do live sound work.

I have this and it's 100% win, surprisingly accurate.. It's called RTA so it's not hard to find

Apps:
Speaker Pop - very useful app to check the polarity of your speakers without opening your monitors or speaker cabinets
Echofon - for teh twitter
Weather Channel - hurr you should know
Logmein - Remote access to your computer
Tipulator - tip calculator
Tempo - Has a tap metronome so you can figure out tempos when bands don't know them
Touchpad - Uses your iPhone touchscreen as if it was a touchpad for a laptop to control your mouse
Pizza Hut - Nom nom nom 20% off every order
Pro Remote - Remote Pro Tools controller, I've never used it since I don't use PT but it could be useful to some people

Games:
Flight Control, Spider, Zombieville, Doodlejump, Flick Fishing, Trism, Skee Ball, there are so many good ones

I have my phone jailbroken. There are a couple of GREAT apps that make it worth it IMO:

Categories - You can organize your apps and games into folders so you don't have multiple pages of apps (I have 2 main pages).
Lock Calendar - Displays your calendar on your lock screen
QuickReply SMS - Allows you to reply to a text message without exiting the app you are currently in
Winterboard - allows you to apply themes to change the GUI of your phone including background and icons
PDAnet - allows you to tether internet access to your laptop

5 mins here and there bullshitting with MIDI would be awesome especially if you're into orchestral shit like I am.

Hell if it straight general MIDI sounds i wouldn't care. How many ppl compose with guitar pro ya know? Same thing.

pro remote is like 100 bucks.

I'm waiting for the 3.1 teathering thing to come out (works with 3.0 but the downgrade process looks too complex)

:lol:I do want it, next app downloading!!

Same.

This has a lot of potential for bettering acoustic measurement on your iPhone... it appears they are even coming out with an iPhone version of SmaartLIVE.

This company has developed a measurement microphone AND an audio interface to hook up to your iPhone... so if my logic is correct you'll be able to get a feed off the board and compare it to the room measurement mic

Everyone with an iPhone should jailbreak it for all the amazing 3dparty apps and system tweaks! You can change every setting possible in the iphone if you jailbreak it.
I probably would be happy with an iPhone without jailbreaking it, but then again, I was happy with the normal phone I had before the iPhone aswell (until it broke) ;)

Also, great apps are:

Jaadu VNC (amazing vnc client) and it's littlebrother Touchpad (ultimate remote).
Pro Chords - For writing hit-songs! ;)
GuitarToolkit - Everything for guitarists. Chords, tuner, whatnot.
TabToolkit - Guitarpro for iPhone (only plays one track at a time atm!)
Shazam - Can be handy to identify songs.
geoDefence - The best game ever made for a mobile phone, seriously. Get it.

You guys got the rest of the apps covered ;)
