Euro Cup 2008

In their defense, you gotta say that the Greeks played a pretty good qualification... they only lost one game.

Then you look at their opponents and you know why. :lol:

jaj =)

2:0 ... this is going to be good

edit: ljungberg is an epic failure ...

I disagree, there's not alot he could have done getting the ball so close to the goalie. and he shot pretty much right away. Still, it was a pretty lucky goal.

All in all, Greeces horrible style didn't work against us and we took it home. I don't think we'll have enough to beat Spain, but I think we stand a chance against Russia unless Hiddink pulls something weird against us. :)

Russia are good?

With Pogrebnyak and Arshavin they'd have been awesome, and had Denisov joined the squad they'd be even better. I thought 2nd was always between Sweden and Russia, and on paper, having watched both before the tournament, I'd have said Russia.

I always thought Spain would win the group and eventually get knocked out later on. Second place for me is Sweden vs. Greece. Russia is not really a team to be counted on. Spoiled superstars that play in a very secluded league dont cut it on this level I think. Yeah, I know they took the uefa cup but this is a whole different think. There's a reason why they don't move.

The Russian League is getting better, and a few of the players are really, really superb. Hiddink organises them well and they played few good games in qualifying.

I agree upon that but I still think that isolation does not benefit them. Many russian players have failed in other european leagues and it's often because of competition. There must be a negative mental factor to that.

Yeah, valid enough point. I think Russia is insular in general, not just in football. They will learn to spread about a bit. I still think it doesn't put them at a massive disadvantage though.

I think there's a dose of both. In terms of football, the dominance of players from russian teams makes the players more familiar with eachother in day to day matching so to speak. There's still a definite difference between succeeding in Russia and Ukraina compared to other european leagues. Many players have failed outside those and therefor many hesitate to try their luck. Anyone has to agree that many of those South Americans who score a whole lot of goals there would have gone to a better league right away. The exception is of course Elano, who is and always will be fantastic in my eyes. I'm too tired to get into the politics haha. Some other time.
