Facts/pictures about your country

Are you all professional photographers or what, every photo is so awesome :worship:
I love swans so thanks for those photos a lot! I have never seen so much swans together as I saw in one of the photos.

It's a type of halo called a sundog, one of the most common shapes.

Here's the sun walking two dogs across the late afternoon sky, spotted from the deck of the ferry between Umea and Vaasa the other day :)

Nice!

Shit, the fact that the Baltic Sea completely freezes over never ceases to amaze me, though I have seen it myself. (But I didn't dare walk on the ice)

I totally forgot the place called Aulanko in Hämeenlinna. There are beautiful sceneries, especially from the top of an observation tower.

Once one of them was bit aggressive towards ducks and chased them.

:heh: @ "aggressive towards ducks and chased them". So nice place you have there. I watch photos of Finland and think how beautiful they are and how lucky I am to live in this beautiful country with nature all around.

I heard they were quite impressive in Oulu, too, did you have time to watch?
No :( Of course they're always on when I've no time to take a look...

...but here in HKI there was nothing but moon and stars.
Not true, actually. But since you live right downtown you should probably get a message from somewhere because they're hard to observe through light pollution. Here's an observation report from Paloheinä, Helsinki

And here's all observations listed from last night that contain images, dubbed by some as the Display of the Decade.

How often do you get the aurora so far south?
This one was definitely expected because the Sun activity is peaking right now. There was an earlier display in late 2011 if I remember right, but there will be a calmer phase coming up in the following years. So, by average I'd say it's 3-4 times per ten years when all guns are blazing down south.

Yeah, I went outside twice and didn't see a thing. If they were visible from Töölö, then in between those times. :( Do you know if there'll be more over the next few days?

This aurora borealis happening was really amazing! I got a note from my friend that GET OUT NOW so I did. Watched amazing hypnotic lights which dance on the whole sky. Obiedent like me I ran outside with winter boots, underwears and my blanket. It was worth it :yow:

In Greece like two days ago,and every year this time,we have this tradition.People and families go on the mountains and try to ''fly'' the ''chartaetos'' (means egale form paper) as high as they can.Children like this a lot, every ''eagle'' has it's own picrure on it,colours etc and the ''goal'' is to make it fly as high as you can and for a long time.I find it boring, never liked it even as a kid,but most people love it.

To return to halos, this happened in southern Ostrobothnia on Monday.

Not something you see everyday. The lower image is unsharp masked to expose shapes not visible to bare eye.

Really beautiful and amazing halos!

I visited my father at weekend and borrowed his snowmobile to get there, where is nothing but me, ice and snow. I saw also three gooses and two swans, but they all get scared my noise. :( Little poor birds doesn't know that ocean is still in ice.

I also went to a trot, horse racing event. In Finnish a trot gets audience second most of all sports, right after icehockey.
There was a start for a little ponys, cute as a pig babys!
