Not true, actually. But since you live right downtown you should probably get a message from somewhere because they're hard to observe through light pollution. Here's an observation report from Paloheinä, Helsinki...but here in HKI there was nothing but moon and stars.
This one was definitely expected because the Sun activity is peaking right now. There was an earlier display in late 2011 if I remember right, but there will be a calmer phase coming up in the following years.
