I heard this also. From the Metal Archives:

"Rumours abound about whether or not The Drummer held or broke the Guinness World Record for being the fastest drummer, but this was pure fabrication on the part of internet users. Not only was there no proof of him reaching the alleged speeds (19 bps per hand), but even if he had done them, without an adjudicator the record wouldn't have stood anyway."

As far as I know, this is referring to Gary Thomas, The Berzerker's previous live drummer, not Akercocke's Dave Gray. Gary Thomas plays in a band called Plague in my home city and I've seen them live several times and own their CD, and I wouldn't be questioning his capabilities. He really is one of the most phenomenal drummers I've ever seen. And it's not just speed, he plays percussion like a lead instrument and it's incredibly complex and tasteful.
