Does one have to have a favorite band? This is impossible for me- maybe because I am not that committed to anything- or maybe becuase there are alot of very good black metal bands out there- every week it seems lile I hear a new black metal band that has some real talent.

I will add Nokturnal Mortum, the industrial Dodheimsgard, Solefald, and The abyss to the list- just becuase I didnt see them anywhere.

Black metal is my favourite metal genre, so I can't just pick ONE favourite band. All these bands rock:

Emperor, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Borknagar, Satyricon, Aeternus (black/death), Arcturus (at least their first record is black metal), Carpathian Forest, Dimmu Borgir, Einherjer (viking/black), Enslaved, Forlorn, Gehenna, Immortal, Limbonic Art, Old Man's Child, Ragnarok, Tristania (ok, perhaps more gothic metal, but hey), Ulver ("Vargnatt", "Bergtatt" and "Nattens Madrigal"), Windir og Zyklon (black/death)

that is the most typical list ever, black metal for dummies.
