Used to be thrash, but I've started to dig a lot more into death metal. I think that's more my scene.

This changes all the time. Right now brutal death metal but if I had to choose overall it would probably be some sort of melodic death like Omnium Gatherum or a power/thrash hybrid, or a progressive metal band like Threshold. Not black and not doom metal. Doom is my least favorite and actually a genre I just can't get into in the least bit.

^Agreed. I think loving it is an acquired taste more so than other genres, because your musical palette really needs experience in picking out small nuances to notice the differences that most people say are identical. Not to mention, you need an appreciation for the slowness, and that's a trait pretty uncommon in other areas of metal.

That totally sounds snobby, didn't mean it that way but not fixing it either.
