Finnish Metal...

I just read some of those topics, like "latest purchase" and a lot of you guys buy/download Finnish metal. I'm from Finland myself and I don't even know how many metal bands we have. Let alone that you guys would know about them!

So what I would like to know is what finnish metal bands you guys know and where are you from and how popular they are there. Coz I though you guys would know like only Children of Bodom or something

I love finnish bands. My favorites are COB, Norther, Ensiferum, Wintersun, Finntroll, and Turisas.

Ensiferum, Wintersun, Finntroll and Turisas (as the poster above listed).
I also like Kalmah, a few songs by Moonsorrow I guess, Kiuas...

Other than that it's mostly shitty generic power metal comin from Finland afaik. However, Ensiferum, Turisas and Wintersun counts as 2 bands each on a "good bands from your country"-scale. They're that good.

Overall I think I prefer Norwegian and Swedish metal. However you got Denmark beat since their only good bands are Beyond Twilight and Wuthering Heights. The rest I thought was good danish bands turned out to be either norwegian or swedish.

I'm from Finland and I own less than ten albums of Finnish metal. IMO we scandinavians do the same metal as everyone else, our media & culture is just more "metal friendly" (e.g.Lordi @ Eurovision) so it's easier to spread the word about good bands.

Turisas is pretty good too. I know about all the others listed, and a couple more, but they mostly suck

I like alot of those bands, Finntroll has got its moments, but I just can't bring my bleeding ears to listen to them lol!

I like COB for the most part except AYDY, however as of late I have steadily been less and less interested in them. This is mainly due to Alexi's terrible personality...

Nightwish- sorta enjoy them on occasion
Sonata Arctica- love them
Wintersun- like what I have heard for the most part
Norther- like them pretty well...actually starting to enjoy them more than COB at least
Kalmah- what I have heard was pretty enjoyable
Shade Empire- recently heard them and they sounded quite awesome, prob look more into them later
Moonsorrow- heard a lot about them but have yet to check them out

I think for the most part metal fans around the world all at have at least a basic understanding of the Finnish metal scene as metal is quite accepted there. This in part leads to more metal bands coming out of there and getting some attention within the community.

From this thread, and the fact that the only thing I enjoyed about any band mentioned in this thread is the Dethklok episode inspired by Finntroll, I conclude that I do not like finnish metal.

Krondor - definately definately Moonsorrow (my absolute fav band in the whole world right now), and don't forget Swallow the Sun too!!

Finland has some absolute killer metal in my opinion!

INSOMNIUM If you're into Edge of Sanity, and Opeth. This band is in my top 5 of all time as far as progressive death metal goes. The worst Finnish band to me...Hanoi Rocks. Oh boy...uhh...shouldn't have...have said their...name...excuse me...uke: Ok...I also like the usual suspects Kalmah,COB...etc. Another 2 great Finnish bands are Rapture, and Omnium Gatherum
Rapture-heavy Brave Murder Day/For Funrals to come era Katatonia sound.
Omnium Gatherum-sound at times like Opeth...(just a little,here and there)a little prog metal as well. Very hard band to compare their sound to.

Oh Yeah...Farmakon. If you like jazz, prog, death, the weirdness of Mike Patton kind of music. Very talented musicians.
