Maybe this will do little more than reveal how old we all are or where we're from, but...

What was the first band you were a FAN of? Meaning, you went out and got all their albums, put posters up in your room, bought merch from, etc. Not what was the first band you liked. What was the first band you fell in love with? Why? How did you discover them? Did you stop being a fan? If so, why?

For me, it was Van Halen. It was all about the solo in "Jump". I had no idea the guitar could sound like that, even though I knew little about the instrument then. I was into pop music at that point, and it was on the local pop station. I guess it is a pretty "poppy" song. I pretty much stopped being a fan in the sort of "I need to have everything they've ever done" sense with the release of Balance. It was boring. And I even liked Van Hagar...

So, what was your first love?

Korn for sure...but Im probably alot older than most people on here so I bought their S/T right after I heard Blind.
I was all "This is so emotional man...he had a screwed up life...just listen to the song "Daddy"... lol
and now I listen to it and say this is so fucking pathetic.

Guns'n'roses when i was like 8 years old, then a little bit later i got into Rush, Zeppelin and Alice in Chains. These days i think that GnR blows shit and all the other three bands are still fantastic...

When I was about fifteen, my absolute favorite band was Metallica. Indeed, I went to buy all their albums, went to a few gigs, got posters, etc. I was also starting to play guitar at the time, learning a lot of Metallica songs. I knew them since I can remember, my dad played the Black Album in the car when I was just a wee lad. My sister was actually a big fan of them before me, so after her I discovered their albums and started to liking them more and more. When starting out with guitar playing I found their riffing awesome, much cooler then the other guys in the neighborhood playing Nirvana stuff.

After two, three years I got into a band called Opeth, and through them the whole extreme metal and progressive scene. A while later I started learning Opeth stuff, which really intrigued me, and I slowly really fell in love with them and progressive metal, which I still am today. While (old) Metallica still has a place in my heart, I now have much broader views about music and don't consider Metallica my 'dream music' anymore.

Korn ?? there's no way back for you guys im sorry.. =(

btw for me it was the cure.
