What I mean is the first band that you listened to religiously. The first band that you know every song and every fact. What is the band that shaped you as a metalhead. I know it's a little basic but for me it's slipknot. when I was in sixth grade my English teacher would play their clean songs and that's how I fell in love with them, And it all went downhill from there.

I was 13 in 1997 when I discovered Bloodhound Gang via the radio and got One Fierce Beer Coaster on tape. They were on another level for me - I nearly wore that tape out and still consider them my fav band now. As for every song and fact, it was way more difficult to know those back then. No Google or mp3s and info on the internet was so incomplete. But even then I found it overwhelming growing up with endless info to absorb. I found their prior album on CD a year later or so, but for a while I had no idea if it was a newer album or what the deal was. Like I couldn't take a moment to slow down, think and realise I could look at the copyright years printed on the albums or read the web more carefully.

I started listening to Metallica in January 1998 and was shaped as a metalhead from there.

the offspring for music, metallica for metal

Metallica
Wow, Lots of Metallica. Not surprising seeing as how they're the greatest metal band of all time.

First group I ever got into was not even a metal band.

It was a country music group called The Statler Brothers. They were even my first concert.

Except for one post this sounds like kiddies club
First band I got into was The Shadows.
First metal band would have been Sabbath I guess, but we had a lot of hard rocking bands playing here in the 70's and very little heavy radio play so heavy music was always there.

I wasn't a very musically adventurous kiddie. I began listening to a pop radio station to help get up for school in 1989, but for nearly 9 years it never crossed my mind to try turning the dial until classmates helped me to make that discovery of Metallica. I started getting tapes from '93 onwards, but initially albums where I found I only cared for 1 or 2 songs.

I'm also a kiddie born not a moment too late given I at least got to see so many of the legends in concert in some form before they disbanded or passed on. Lemmy, Dio, Paul Di'Anno, Malcolm Young, Dusty Hill, Budgie, Sabbath's 2013 & 2016 tours etc.

I think I used to have some Shadows mp3s in the early 00s as someone I knew on IRC liked them. But instrumental stuff was an even tougher sell on me back then.
