If you like Opeth, what other bands do you like???

Besides Opeth, I like Slayer, Maiden, Priest, Anthrax, Death, Testament, Overkill, Exodus, Rush, Metallica, Behemoth, Sepultura, Pantera, Lamb of God, Morbid/Death Angel, Amon Amarth...

Well if you want a tip or two on new bands that have connections to Opeth I guess I should recommend the ones I find great; Katatonia and bloodbath obviously, Tool is also worth checking out. And definately nine inch nails!

I recommend Dissection's live DVD Rebirth of dissection, I think its just a masterpiece of black
metal. Satyricon is a great and original black metal band too.

Some classic rock stuffs are always worth checking out, jimi hendrix, bob marley. the beatles, queen but my guess is that everyone has heard those bands already. Meshuggah's new album obZen is obviously great as well.

I'd also recommend everyone to check out classical music, Mozart, beethoven etc.

Folk/rock music? Porcupine tree are great, I also listen some to Janne schaffer

P.S I know my post is somewhat incoherent :p im too tired to put any structure in it

I'm always surprised at how nobody ever mentions Alchemist in these types of threads. I'd say they're definitely in the top 3 of progressive extreme metal bands, together with Enslaved and Opeth. The new album Tripsis is absurdly good.

sheesh I MTP'd it on Erks a while back, got some replies but not many. don't have it with me now, but I'm sure you can find Tripsis easily on a blog search

cool, let me know what you think. I was disappointed that not many folks reacted when I upped Tripsis. if Enslaved is progressive black metal, and Opeth is progressive death metal, then Alchemist is progressive industrial psychedelic space rock death metal. or something. welp.

Ill say what I always say when Alchemist is brought up, Organasm is the best album to get! Start with either that or Spiritech eos

I found Tripsis to actually be quite lacking, but then, I havent given it a fair chance, perhaps Ill give it a few more spins today and see how I go.

Oh and they're playing live down here soon, will be the third time ive seen them :headbang:

it has nothing to with opeth's music, but those who like opeth will most likely like magyar posse. all three of their albums are excellent, but kings of time is on another level.

ya that seems to be the general consensus, but Tripsis is still my favorite by far for some reason. absolutely solid from start to finish, one of those rare albums I simply can't fault in any way, whereas my attention tends to wander a bit when listening to their previous albums

Wow, didnt realise you loved it that much. I listened to it some more but I just cant find in it any of the charm of their older records, theres no chinese whispers or tide in mind out. :shrugs: But seeing as you talk so highly, I might give it more of a chance to grow on me, some albums are like that.
