First bass purchase

Basically what I'm getting at is that you can make a shitty bass sound better way easier than you can make a shitty guitar sound better.

it's easier to get a shitty guitarist to sound better than a shitty bass player.....

What about Yamaha basses? I think the RBX 375 model is not bad for a first bass. That's what I'm aiming at anyway - for recording and a bit of jamming. It goes for abt. 300 EUR in these parts.

I wouldn't go for one of them if I was you. 2 friends of mine have had them and both of them broke after about 18 months, don't even know what happened to them they just started sounding really shitty and distorted. Changed batteries, changed strings. No difference. Shame because they were awesome sounding basses before they packed in.

I really like me Ibanez SR500, I'd recommend that or any model above that.
Fender Aerodyne bass is cool too, Jazz and P-Bass sound with a different look than the classics.
