I didn't move the mic positioning from my last go with my 5150 - still need to experiment overall with it. Quad tracked, 81 -> OD808 -> JSX w/JJ 6L6's in the power section -> Mesa 4x12 standard -> SM57 -> FirePod. 2 tracks of the tone I dialed in and liked first, then 2 more of the same tone with less treble, gain, and the fat switch engaged.

Nice, almost the same setup as me although I have a Firebox. Any post editing or is it dry?

Oh, and would you happen to have a pic of your mic placement? Would you be able to take one if not? thanks dude

-Joe

Post processing was only HPF/LPF at 70hz and 12khz, respectively, and some slight compression on the master bus.

Damn thats about as good a raw tone as it gets.

I really like the riffs too. I've been sick of this kind of metal for a while but something about those riffs makes me happy in the pants region. I don't flatter people either.

Let me ask you a question though. I see some acoustical treatment going on. Could you elaborate on how you've got that set up? It's hard to see from the photos because they're so close to the mics

Much appreciated :)

Honestly, my room is the most ghetto part of my setup. It's an attic - A frame, plywood floors, lots of crap crammed in, but it still has a pretty nice but dead sound. I've got the cab not facing the same direction as any of the walls, at least 2 feet from a wall at all points. I think the most important part is that I've got the cab on one of those Auralex Great GRAMMA (thanks to egan. for that recommendation!), really helps with controlling the low end, which can be a big problem in small rooms.

you know i should really pick up one of those, i have low end issues up the wazoo

I've found that getting cabs out of corners and sticking them into the most open space in a room works wonders for controlling low end. The difference is unreal. If you want to reduce those boomyness issues in the mix, that may be a good starting point.

Aside from that, that's a great tone to have without much processing. It's much better than I've ever heard my mate's JSX sound (sorry neb, maybe those EL34s in the power section are rooting your tone, but it doesn't even sound close).

From this clip I can actually see why some people prefer the JSX to the 6505.

wahouw. first the "song" and the playing are killer. tight. appreciate that.

then the sound of this amp is massive !!!! really helps. thanx. it's not easy right here to try a lot of amplifiers. so thanx for this rewiew, now I know what this beast is capable of !!!

Haha, it's ok dude. The 6L6's seem to take away some of the nasty 800/1000 Hz build up I have in my JSX, which I'm sure is being somewhat helped by the nicely scooped 81's.

Any chance of getting a clip with passive pups?
