Everywhere and nowhere
For all the Atlanta peeps, what is available within walking distance of the Grenada to eat? I've never stayed in that part of town, usually just driving in from the airport area to go to PP.

There's a Houlihans up the hill near the mall, Gladstone Cafe a block down from the Granada, a Subway near the Residence Inn across from the venue, on Crescent street there is The Daily News (iirc) and one other resturant that are awesome, there's a sandwhich shop that also has pizza on the same Peachtree the venue is on. All these are in walking distance. Last year, while walking from the Courtyard, we discovered yet another outdoor mall area with a rather large resturant, and quite a few food options. I don't know all the streets, as I'm not from there, but if we were there, I could point you in the right direction. :) People at the fest pretty friendly if you ask them directions or advice on where to eat & not eat,so, have no fear! LOTS of options!

There's an Einstien Bros. Bagels not too far from there too, if I recall. There was also a pizza/pasta place not too far away, but damned if I remember what it was called. :(

How about food near the Regency?

Gladstone Cafe a block down from the Granada

A few friends and I "discovered" the Gladstone Cafe last year. In fact, as I recall, we ran into you and Freak Kitchen there. :) Nice place, and nice (covered) patio. I'm surprised more ProgPower attendees don't hang out there, considering how close it is to the Granada and the venue.

Does anyone have a link to the map that someone made a couple years ago, that lists all the food options in the area?

Except on Sunday. Damn Jesus freaks.

I believe Houlihans is gone, closed down. Too bad, that place was pretty good. There is a great Italian place not far from The Granada. If you're walking back from The venue to the Granada and come to the first stoplight. Take a left which means cross Peachtree NW and walk uphill to the second Peachtree street. Cross that street and go left past Subway. That Italian place should be two or three stores to the left of Subway. Great Pasta and Salads! Only bad thing is it is closed really early on Saturday WTF? Get there on Friday!

Aw, man. Ate at the Houlihan's last year. It's like our last Sunday meal before we head home. Hope it's still around!

I believe you're talking about Vespucci's. It's next door to the Subway Restaurant near the Residence Inn. Good food there, too.

That's right! Vespucci's! Yeah, my friends and I got a pretty tasty meal there.

There was also an all-night cafe we ate at after Friday or Saturday night. But I can't remember what it was called. I do remember a drunken party guy came in, started yelling and cussing, was told to leave, and left, causing destruction in his wake. And then Met-Al tried to dance with some old lady who was grooving at the dessert bar, and scared her.

yep, that's the place, they all really liked the food there, as did I, so Gladstone got patronized a lot during the fest last year & the year before. Food isn't cheap, but it wasn't outrageous either, most importantly it was damn good!

Did Jax do up that map? I can't remember...I'm old....
Boob isn't fibbing about the late Saturday/Sunday morning thing. Get your food fix in early, or stash a Subway sammich' back at your room. The local eateries close kind of early, and Sundays, it's dang near impossible to find food in the immediate area.....

There's another all night place about a mile or 2 north of the venue, It was 4:00am, I was hammered, and my roomie insisted on getting food (& was also hammered) I had French Toast at 4:00am, and the prices were ok....

Houlihan's was open last year. Did it close down recently?

If you walk away from the venue down the same street, you can go past the Einstein Bagels and keep going another couple of blocks. On the far left corner is a pub that has really good food. I'd say it's maybe 1/2 mile away from the hotel.

Vespucci's was great...as was its namesake. :)

The Hyatt Regency downtown? Lots of places. Dragon*Con is headquarted at that hotel and the website might have local food info on it (I know it used to, when I ran the site :)). www.dragoncon.org

Regency Suites Hotel. Sorry, should have been more specific. Odds are Met-Al and I will be taking the Marta(?) to get to the venue, but will have to walk back after each night of the show. So any food places that might be on the way that are still open late would be great. If there are any, at least.

"The sign said 'Breakfast Served Anytime,' so I ordered French Toast during the Rennaissance."

You might be thinking of R. Thomas, on Peachtree Street.

Other 24-hour eateries include Taco Cabana to the north* and Chinese Buddha to the south (well, they close at 6am or so). And of course, several hundred Waffle Houses. :)

* they are closing and -- I hope! -- relocating, but this should be happening AFTER ProgPower.

Hehehehehe Yeah, R. Thomas vaguely rings a bell. I'll bet that was the place...

the Vortex place(I think cant remember for the life of me) which is like halloweeny-goth kinda restaurant was really worth the 30m walk, if you're cool for more walking than most and a good meal i'd recommend that. One of the locals could give ya directions, I think its pretty well known

The Vortex has the best hamburgers in Atlanta. You needn't take my word for it, though, since they won the Creative Loafing readers' poll. :heh:

The midtown location is less than a 30 mile walk from the venue. FTM, so is their legendary Little 5 points location.
