It's a camcorder mic at a trade show. 'S not going to sound good no matter who's playing through what amp. The Jeff Loomis vids I've seen from NAMM sound awful too. Nothing but ear-piercing treble.

And it's an amp made by a company that specializes in wacky effects. It's not meant to sound "good" in the traditional sense at all. Even says so on their web site.

Trent Reznor is getting the Fucking Fucker...and its not just a "wacky" FX unit, its a full-fledged amp, using tons of unique tubes in innovative ways, and some of the stuff you can do with the amp is really really fascinating. Its also a stereo amp, you need two speakers because of some of the effects its capable of. Also, ANYONE using tube amps should be fascinated by their power amp design. Read about it before you trash it for just being a $5000 amp. If I owned a studio that did a wide range of music, I would seriously consider getting one of these, and it probably would get used alot.

Trent Reznor could actually put that thing to good use. Someone like Reeves Gabrels, Adrian Belew or Robert Fripp probably could as well. (Though I'd laugh my ass off to see the very dignified Mr. Fripp sitting there with a Fucking Fucker in his backline!) I could even picture someone like Steven Wilson or Matt Bellamy using something like that quite a bit.

For a player who uses a lot of effects and non-traditional guitar tones, I don't think it would be a horrible purchase. Even at $5000 new, it's still less than a new Diezel VH4S or Bogner Ecstasy Classic with their matching 4x12s (both are over $4000 new, though I'm sure the Diezel is cheaper in Europe, and the cabs are in the $1000 range) and I'm sure the build quality is absolutely first-rate.

I read about it AND understood it (being a bit of a tech-freak myself)

something is not good only BECAUSE it uses fancy tubes or so...it's the sound and the application that makes it sound usable...
of course there are ways to use it...

there are situations where it can sound good to play and record guitar thru a casio watch with built in calculator but I wouldn't pay 5000$ for that...

The whole thing IS a P.R. joke. Check out the site and listen to the guitar TM5 preamp clip, effing brilliant. The frequency response is less than 10hz to greater than 40khz. Even the voice overs are distorted, lmao!

I don't think it's hard to say this amp sounds like shit even if you stay right next to it. Still it's look is fantastic. But not worth the 5000 bucks.
